Well, once again it's been an age and a half since I wrote in here. People probably don't even look at it anymore because I never update. Oh, well. This Saturday Ariel and I are going to Ohio with the youth for the annual taffy pull. It's an event that the Old Brethren youth have been holding for a long time. I'm not sure exactly how long, but over twenty years. It started really small in someone's kitchen, but it's grown considerably since then, and probably 60-70 youth attend. Youth from other churches often attend, too, and some of my friends have gone, so I've heard a lot about it. I thought about going last year, but couldn't get a ride, so this will be my first time. I'm kind of nervous, and not really sure that I totally want to go, but I didn't want to go through life having to say that I never went to the taffy pull because I was too scared. So, off I go, and I'm sure I'll have fun, once I find out who I'm pulling with and get used to the fact.
See, all the guys and girls are paired off in some fun way that's left totally to chance. No one knows which guy/girl they're going to pull with until they pair off. So now you can see why I'm kind of scared, because I don't know the Old Brethren guys here all that well, and there are bound to be some guys there that I've never even laid eyes on. But the good thing is that the room is packed full other people who are pulling, so there's always someone to talk to if you can't get a decent conversation going with the guy you're pulling with. I've just decided that if the guy I get won't make an effort to converse, it's obvious that he is NOT a cool guy, so I don't really care what he thinks of me, and I'll just jabber away and not worry if I sound like a fool. My first hope is that I get someone un-scary, and my second hope is that I won't do anything stupid, like fumble the taffy and drop it on the floor, or brace to pull and fall over backwards or something. I can just see myself getting some really nice guy, and then doing something totally dumb like that. The poor guy would be like, Oh, brother! Not only is she stupid and ugly, she can't even pull taffy right! Okay, so I'm not really worried that I'll do anything that extreme, but it's always a possibility with me!
Pulling taffy isn't the only thing that's done. We'll also sing at a nursing home, play volleyball and other games, and eat supper. Then we'll stay overnight and go to the Ohio Old Brethren church in the morning. I think probably there's a meal afterwards, but I'm not really sure. After that, we'll head for home and wind down after our big weekend!
Anyway, it should be a fun and scary weekend, and I'm determined to enjoy it, no matter what!
Well, I should go back to working on the dress that I'm trying to finish so that I can wear it on Saturday. Taffy pull, here I come!
