I miss my friends.

Sally, the new Fawn seems to be adjusting well.

I have been more busy than normal since Dad passed on.
Keeping up two places is a chore. Trying to get his place back to where it was when Mom was alive is proving to be a chore. Dad loved clutter. I think he felt some security in it in some form. I still have 8 old vehicles to haul off. Good thing scrap prices are up.
He had gone into repairing air conditioners after her retired. He did this for no charge. That will always be part of his legacy, doing what he wanted because that is what he wanted to do.

My cousin called and said some rough necks had stopped and asked who lived there. The asked about the air conditioners.
I have been disassembling them into piles of scrap metal, copper and aluminum. It would be easy pickings for someone to cut the lock and steal the piles.

I called Foley Belsaw about some of the machines in his shed. He had bought them and never used, like new condition. Some are very valuable. I suppose I am going to build a shop and move a lot of the things over here.
Man, he sure could collect some cool toys.

I have been trying to learn the saw mill. We bought it together 4 years ago. Once his mobility decreased, we put that venture on the back burner.
We have he saw mill, a new double bladed edger and the commercial molding machine (still new and crated in my basement). Dad said there was money to be made in all this.
If there were more hours in a day I reckon I might one day find out if there is or not.

I am now marketing beef in the halves, processed. With cattle prices it seemed like a nice niche market to try. I could sell 10 right now. I might have priced the meat to cheaply. Feed prices keep increasing. I am not sure how long I will keep feeding the fats.

I have a meeting with the county property appraiser tomorrow. They really have tried to jack my taxes up since the land changed ownership. So far I have done well in getting things back like they were.
Property values have increased here so much that the local government wants the old family land owners to sell. Then they get more $ in property taxes.

Funny....
When Dad dies I think some people must have thought I would need to sell land for burial expenses or something. People began to make very low offers on some parcels of land.
Then, I began to get some unreal offers in the other direction.
Funny how is now seems some have waited for Dad to go thinking some of his land would become available.
I have nothing to sell. Where would my calves graze?
Life is good an simple and will continue on as before.
I wish there were more hours in a day.
I no longer feel as guilty when I do not have as much time for the forum.
I am always impressed at what a great job Becky, April, Kiley and Sabrina do in handling things and making it run so well.
