Good 1st week

After having the new girls for a whole week, I am very pleased at where we are at. Amanda has been working with Freckles and Mo. Freckles because although she has a good start, she still needs lots of work and Mo, well is barely started. I have been working with Nikki because she is the most finished of all of them and it is helping me to learn the ins and outs of reining on a horse that has a good start. DeDe has been doing her weekly longeline training and is doing fantastic. She moves out without needing the longe whip and other then her liking to buck and kick out, she is doing very well. Plus she is setting up really well when we work on halter stuff. I have been taking her over anything and everything I can find to get her ready for trail in hand classes. We won't be showing her until September so I have plenty of time to get her ready.
Poor Belle has been in the pasture and being given extra feed to help put back on the weight that Rocky is taking off of her. She looks pretty bad right now and hopefully I can get the little guy weaned in the next month, sorta earlier than I had wanted but she just can't keep up with both of their needs.
Nikki and I have worked out most of the kinks and we should really start making improvements daily. While I still think she needs some TLC due to someone in her past whipping on her she also needs to know that I will not let her get lazy and not work for me. I have had to get on her a couple of times and since then she is really good about doing what I ask of her. She really knows how to spin and while I currently am taking it slow (so I can learn how to stay on!) I have seen her crank it with my trainer and know what she is capable of. I am hoping to be working out the kinks in her flying lead changes by the end of the week. We should have circles down pretty well by then and her roll backs are already good. anyway, lots to do in the next few months.
