I have decided to start a journal. So where to begin...I guess I'll start with some stuff about my horse and what not.
My horse's registered name is Splashing Reflection but she is more commonly known as Sis. She is a 15 hand, sorrel (w/roaning), 13 year old Quarter horse mare. Sis is a trained drill team horse and was the lead horse on her drill team. Their drill team travelled all over Oregon going to rodeos to preform. She is out of Impresive Reflection and Morningstar Misty. I wonder why they have is name with one 's'. When I bought her I was just looking for a pleasure horse, I didn't think I would ever show. Soon enough I had joined a horse 4-H club and started taking lessons. I ended up switching instructors because there was a HUGE conflict in personalities and ideas. Once I did, our preformance went up by 200% by the end of the first lesson. Since Sis is a drill team horse she wants to go fast because she thinks she needs to. On top of that being the lead horse to her means being the first on the rail, in line or whatever. However, we're trying to turn her into a western pleasure horse. If that doesn't work out she'll be an english pleasure horse. In the end she'll probably do both but we're probably going to have one or the other as our main focus and that will be the one she proves to be best at. My goal is to eventually be able to show in AQHA with her, if not I would like to breed her and ride her foal in AQHA or APHA shows. She works hard and tries her best (usually) and I absolutely love her.
My sister has a pony that I help her with. His registered name is GSP Clues Tough Too but he's known as Clue. He is a 13.3 hand, 4 year old POA. His coloring is bay roan with snowflakes on his hind quarters, brown leopard spots on his hindquarters and he used to have dapples but his winter coat is coming in and you can't see them. I hope he still has them next summer. While he is young he is bombproof (almost too bombproof) and is a kid's pony. Orginally he was from Arizona but he was bought by the people who I got Sis from (they commissioned her) for their son who lost interest. He is trained western but will probably be more of an english pony (will still do western) or he will be used for gaming. Eventually he may get to do breed shows but I am not sure how far my sister wants to go with him. While he can drive me up a wall I still love him.
Now onto what has been going on lately. Today so far hasn't been a very good one for Sis. She tried to bite me which she got in trouble for. Then I touched her coronet band on her back leg with my toe and she kicked out (again got in trouble). So I brought out my handystick and desensitezed her, she was fine on the right side but kicked out once on the left and kept going in circles and wouldn't quit. In short she is doing better about getting touched there and has learned biting and kicking aren't worth it. When I got after her for kicking out she jumped back and looked at me like "OMG! You ARE serious!" Clue hasn't done anything naughty today but he was VERY good about waiting outside the stall until I said "OK" so he could eat. I haven't had a lesson in about a month. My instructor isn't very consistant with giving lessons so that's why I haven't had a lesson in so long. My mom is thinking of getting a new instructor because my current one is so inconsistant. I would like it if I could take lessons from two people (I have done it before), I can learn more and different methods. Then I can still work with my current one because she has helped me a lot and is very good. I can always understand what she wants. If I don't do it right, she'll remind me and if I make the same mistake more than however many times, depends on what we're doing, she'll get on a show my what she wants. She doesn't just get on, she'll ask me first. During my first lesson when she got on she said that she won't school my horse like her own unless she has permission to do so because Sis is my horse so I need to decide how much she needs getting after. If I didn't like what she was doing then I could tell her and she would stop doing it and explain why she was doing it then wouldn't do it unless I decided it was ok. I haven't had a problem with her doing anything to my horses that I didn't like. She doesn't nag or degrade you and is encouraging. Which is exactly the opposite of my first instructor, go figure. I hope I can persuade my parents to let me do that. I'm sure I'll work something out. (Wow this got long fast).
