C Certificate Results (With Pony Club)

Posted 12-04-2005 at 09:28 PM by CrunchieTown
2 weeks I did the 'C' certificate at pony club, and the certificates go like - D - D* - C - C* - K then they keep going, and they are just certificates you accumulate as you ride and get better and more knowledgeable with horse care and riding and all that. The areas you were judged on were

Showjumping - A course 45cm to 75cm

Presentation - Having A Clean Horse, well groomed, well kept, nice clean tack etc.

Riding - You had to walk/trot/canter on both reins, then walk/trot/canter without stirrups. Get an extended trot and an extended canter in the arena and do a couple of strides of the gallop.

Horsemanship - Putting bandages on, rugging a horse, doing ground work with the horse. Knowing points of the saddle and bridle.

Written Test - Answering questions about horse gaits, ailments, things that should go in a tack box and first aid kit, and about how to look after tack and knowing the points of the horse.

P - Means Pass
P+ - Means Pass with extra special acknowledgment

I got a P+ for my showjumping and my Written test and a P for everything else.

Ridden - There was a group of 9 of us doing the certificate and out of those 9, Crunchie and one other horse were the only two that galloped. I had never worked without stirrups before, so I wasnt sure if i had that greater balance, but I did and I stayed on fine so I am really happy about how I went with that. We didn't really get any extensions on either the trot or canter and I think thats what she was really looking for. But I had good fun doing the Ridden Part.

Showjumping - When the DC (lil_loz_rocks)'s mum was setting up the jumps for showjumping, she put a couple up to grade 3 (75cm) and I was like 'oooh no, me and crunch can't jump grade 3 yet!' and I was pretty nervous. But I got him over the practice jump and I was really happy that he was doing the practice jump with ease. Then i took him into the course, and cantered through the course, but trotted over the jumps and he went so well and as I left the course, the assessor person said 'That was a perfect round, absoulutly perfect' and I was like... 'ooooh wow!' hehe so yeah Im quite happy about that.

Presentation - Like alot of people I was kind of caught unaware about how strict the presentation was going to be, my horse, me and my tack were all clean, but Crunchie's mane had dandruff in it, so she recommended shampoo (not that I dont clean his mane, but she recommended like a dandruff kind of shampoo) and it was still curly from when It had been plaited so she thought I hadnt brushed it properly...So she just passed me on that...If I had have known how strict it would be, I would have washed him the day before!!!

HorsemanShip - Well i passed that, just hehe. I put the bandages on right, I accidently put the rug on inside out...But it wasnt my horse, and I'd never seen a rug like it before, so i wasn't sure how it worked, and I wasnt sure about the horse either. They cant expect you to do your best working with a horse you've never touched before. So yeah, I picked this horses hooves and everything, and just answered basic questions on feeds and stuff like that.

Written Test - Well, i didnt leave it to the last minute or anything ...But thank-god I studied something, unlike some people who like hadnt touched their books!! Thats why I got a P+, I got 81% which was alright, the average was about 70% - 75% so I got above average and yeah, so now its official i know my ailments which is really important!!

Just thought I'd share my results with you all
