Today was fun!

Posted 08-19-2009 at 02:10 PM by Blondehorse
Today some good friends came over so that we could all go to Fort Wayne. There's a fabric/design store there that was having a warehouse sale-- all warehouse fabric $5 a bolt-- so the moms wanted to go there, and we girls wanted to go to the mall. We all ended up going to the fabric store for a little while. I got some orange and darker orange striped fabric to make things for Tariq (his color is going to be dark/burnt orange) and some fawn-colored suede-type fabric that I will probably make a bareback...

Pickles, Young Folks, and Sewing

Posted 08-14-2009 at 04:34 PM by Blondehorse
I'm done making dill pickles for the year, but still need to do cinnamon pickles, and will probably do a canner of sweet pickles as well if there are enough little cucumbers out there. The dills turned out really well. This year I just used Mrs. Wages pickling mix instead of a recipe. I don't really eat dill pickles much, as I don't particularly care for them, so a quick and easy mix sounded good to me rather than throwing together a recipe. The cinnamon pickles will be enough work to make up...

Mmmm... Granola!

Posted 07-30-2009 at 04:20 PM by Blondehorse
I made up a batch of granola this evening. I'll get to have my yogurt and granola for breakfast again, because I made yogurt a couple of days ago. I'm a very happy girl when I get to eat yogurt and granola every morning!

In fact, I decided to post the recipe I use for granola, since it's one of my very favoritest recipes!

10 cups rolled oats
1 cup wheat germ
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup nuts
1/2 cup butter, melted
...

Of Stall Mats, Tomatoes, and Uncooperative Horses

Posted 05-19-2009 at 04:47 PM by Blondehorse
Today Ariel and I put stall mats down in the foaling stall. Yesterday we hauled them out of the barn (four of them were in the aisle, and two were in Banner's old stall) and scrubbed them down with soap and water. Then later I hauled them off the grass into the barn all by myself. Using a vice grip helps, but those things weigh a ton no matter what!

They look nice in the stall. Not a perfect fit, but we've never experienced that, so maybe we don't know what we're missing. There's still...

Pardon me... but is my head on fire?

Posted 05-12-2009 at 08:26 AM by Blondehorse
Well, it turns out that we're not doing young folks this week, but we might next, or pretty soon, anyway. Dad is checking to see if we could rent the sports center there on campus, which would be really cool. We have no idea if they'd rent it out, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Lol, you've gotta love little private universities, though-- of course we never would have dreamed about renting Hilton Coliseum when Dad taught at IA State!!!

Young folks is tonight, though, and we're playing...
