August 23 - College Tour & Sierras

Posted 08-23-2006 at 01:15 AM by SuZQuzie
So, tomorrow (or rather today being that it's one in the morning) my boyfriend Jeff, his mom Ilene, my mom, & myself plan on getting on a plane to begin our journey. This is our schedule:

Wednesday PM: Plane ride up to Seattle, WA.
Thursday AM: Visit University of Washington in Seattle.
Thursday PM: Visit & take LOTS of pictures of Yeager (the stallion bred to Queen & Penny ).
Friday AM: Fly to San Fransisco, CA.
Friday PM: Explore San Fransisco.
Saturday AM: Visit Stanford University in Stanford, CA (20 miles South of SF).
Saturday PM: Hop on a train to San Luis Obispo, CA.
Sunday AM: Visit Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Sunday PM: Train home to make a wedding in the evening.

I'm very excited but not quite sure what will happen on the plane with all this terrorist business. Ilene is being a bit of a pain saying stuff like, "but you'll be so far away" & "but it rains all the time there" because she just doesn't want Jeff to go away to college. Jeff's opinion on the matter is that he will go to whatever school he decides is the best one for him regardless of his mom's opinion.

I REALLY want to get out of the Southern California scene. It is very "look this way or be trash" attitude in my opinion & I'm not all for that.

I also may have a job up in WA already. Anne Johnson (who lives about 20 minutes away from U of W) said that she will be looking for working students when she gets more established & I said that I would be more than happy to apply for the job. I think it would be so neat to help her train & raise all her colored WB babies along with my own. She doesn't only train her horses. She works for Elderberry Farms still & trains almost all of their stallions. So I'm guessing that I may help her in that aspect as well. Of course, there will be the less desirable parts of the job like mucking & lay up tending. In the long run, man will that help me, especially if I end up trying to get into vet school.

I will have my computer with me, so updates will come.

On another note, I just got back from a week long backpack trip in the Southwestern Sierra Nevadas in Central California. My camera didn't like the temperature up there (35*F felt warm) & decided not to work unless I kept it RIGHT up against myself to warm up the battery, then quickly snap the shot. I think I only managed to get one picture when it was a whopping 42*F. I really need to put that up on her. Ilene (I went with Jeff's family) took some fantastic ones that I also need to include.
I really need to get going.
