About me.

What is your first name? Kimberly
Are you married/single/a child (tell us about you a little)? Engaged to a wonderful man named Jim. We are getting married in Sept.
Where do you see yourself in ten years? Hopefully, Jim and I will have 2 healthy children at that time (and I pray by then they are in kindergarten at least!! LOL) I also hope to be competing at 4th Level or above at USDF rated shows. I hope to have a sucessful warmblood production business (buying weanlings, bringing them up, training and selling.) I hope to still have as many wonderful and dedicated students and horses as I do now (plus many more!)
Do you own a horse? If so, how many and what are their names/breeds ages? I own 2. A trakehner named Stevey (who is on lease to a good friend and her daughter) and a OTTB named Rusty who I just got 3 months ago as a project.
How did you get started with horses? My Aunt had a shetland pony. I started riding when I was 2. My formal training started about 17 years ago when my parents bought me a lesson package at a local hunter/jumper barn for my 13th birthday. I've never looked back!!
What types of riding do you do? My passion in life is Classical Dressage, but I also teach and show Hunter/Jumpers. I hope to get into a little bit of eventing, but my main goal as a professional rider is to concour USDF!! LOL
Do you board or keep your horses at home? Kinda a combination of both! I live literally next door to our training facility - I can see my horses in thier paddocks when they are turned out from my kitchen window. It's pretty awesome to have them "at home" but still have a staff to do all the dirty work! (LOL - don't pick on me, I cleaned stalls and scrubbed buckets for over 10 years - I've paid my dues!!
)
Do you show or pleasure ride? Showing should be pleasurable!! I find enjoyment in my horses almost every time I get on one. We are very serious about our showing, but I never forget why I do it - because I LOVE horses!!!
How many hours per day or week do you spend with horses? Between teaching and training, I spend about 40 hours at the barn per week - sometimes more in the summer.
What is your favorite horse event/sport? DRESSAGE! I found a true passion deep within for the study of Dressage. It has changed my life and taken my connection with horses to a level I never knew exsisted. The best part is that it is endless, you never run out of new things to learn!
What is your favorite breed? I'm a big fan of any well bred horse. I particularly love Dutch Warmbloods, Trakehners and Hanovarians. I really hope to get into dealing high end horses as my horse business grows.
What would be your ideal horse? Gosh. It's hard to say- one with a good mind and great attitude - one who loves his job and wants to please. Excellent conformation and gaits are a must. Color, size, breed and sex don't matter...
What is your greatest accomplishment? (With, without horses, or both) To date, landing the job I have now, training alongside an International level Eventer. For a girl who got 1 lesson package for her 13th Birthday and had to work for every other experience/opportunity, it's very encouraging for someone of that calibur to take notice and put some faith into me. I've learned so much in such a short time and only have more to learn! She has opened up so many doors for me and has allowed to get on a path I never dreamed was a possiblity. When I was a little girl, all I wanted to be was a horse trainer. Now that dream is coming true and I can hardly believe my lucky stars! I don't think anyone ever thought that the little girl who grew up in the subburbs would make it even this far.... and it's only the beginning! Every day I wake up with even higher goals for myself
What do see in your future as far as horses are concerned or what are your future plans for you and horses? Well, last year I quit my full time job to focus on training and teaching. So horses are now my primary occupation. I hope to continue to grow my clientele and increase my experience and knowledge as a coach and trainer. As I said above, I'd like to get into dealing high end sporthorses - buying them as weanlings, bringing them up, training and selling. Of course, I also want one of those for myself to continue my own show career! I hope to make it to the top levels at USDF rated shows. Longer term, I hope to maintain a sucessful riding school, get my USEF judges license and travel as a clinician.
How did you find HGS? About 4 years ago I was googling "purple coolers" and stumbled upon it. Hahah.... guess what? I never left! LMAO!
In what forum sections do you find yourself posting or spending the most time? Horse training, horse chat and off topic are probably the 3 I spend the most time in. I try to stay away from the breeding section because I tend to get a little wriled up in there. LOL These days, I don't post nearly as much as I used to and spend more time behind the scenes PM'ing.
Tell us something that others might not know about you. Gosh, after 4 years, is there anything you guys DONT know?! OH.... I think I've probably met more HGS members then anyone else.... (If my math is correct!) LOL
