Joe got sick-care advice

Monday night I went out to the barn to ride, and Joe hadn't eaten his breakfast or hay. We tried hand feeding him a variety of things. He wouldn't eat. We took his temperature and it was 104.2. So the vet came out. She checked for ticks and swelling and didn't find any. She gave him an injection of bute for the fever, penicillin, and took blood for tests. Tuesday she found out he had a high white count so he's now on penicillin and bute as needed for fever. So, basicially I want to know what I can do to keep him entertained. He's confined to his stall since he's contageous, so he's quite bored. I want to walk him once he's no longer a threat to other horses, but he's an active horse and hates being stalled. What can I do with him (in his stall) to keep him happy?

You can put a ball or some other toy in with him. Or if YOU want to do somthing you could brush him, read too him(helps bonding too), or teach him a trick!! Good luck and I hope you boy feels better soon!

We have taken milk jugs, and placed them almost facing down, but not quite. put just a few pony treats in them, and watch them learn to tip it upside down to get the treats! Or you could put a stall licker in there like from jolly ball, or a jolly ball. I would brush him in there like GnG said, it is good time spent with your horse and he should enjoy it! Get better soon buddy!

A massage can bring out a lot of tension or frustration due to boredom. Try stretches, a new trick and maybe some desensitization to some new things. (balls, foam, umbrella, ect)
