How do you know that he won't shed out black? Almost every black foal i've seen has started off as a buckskin-looking color with only dark on the legs/face. They then later shed out... just a question It's a lot harder to tell color through pictures vs. being there in person.

Well, I had heard that as well but he doesn't have that darker skin under his coat, so we are pretty certain he will stay buckskin. I am really anixous to get Dusty, the sire, DNA tested now. Should be sending the hairs off next Monday.

Thanks, she has always been my favorite and I have owned her since she was a yearling. My husband wants me to sell her but I am trying to find a way out of it. I mean, look at what she produced! And she is a great mother.

We now have 4 different people who want the foal and he is not even a week old!

That's true, but the "buckskin color" on black foals is usually more of a mousy color. It looks kind of like a grulla. This one actually has the yellow color of a buckskin. My bet is he stays buckskin, and will probably get a bit darker.

http://www.horsequest.co.uk/images/W...ckFoalJuly.jpg <-- that foal will be black. It's more of a sooty mousy greyish color.
