It Makes Me So Sad

It makes me so sad to know that just anyone can own horses without knowing how to care for them. We just got a horse in for training who had never been handled, not even once. He is terrified of people and I can't blame him. His 2 year old face was stuffed into a weanling halter which had practically grown into his face. There is a big dent in his nose now. He is SO THIN and his hooves have never been trimmed. They're curling out to the sides. These are the owners future winners?! Its absolutly disgusting. I told the owner flat out that I was horrified at the halter situation. Apparently they didn't even notice I gave the horse one of my old ones.
This horse is the sweetest little thing after 2 days with us. You'd never know he was a 2 year old colt. He lets me come in his stall and scratch him which is a big difference from the poor creature cowering in the corner just 2 days ago. He is learning how to eat a carrot and I don't think he's ever seen grain in his lifetime.
It makes me sad to know that these things happen to horses everywhere Just had to vent.

I know. They brought him in that state. Honestly, the horse is very well bred, you think they might actually take care of it. They're willing to pay $65/day for care and training but too cheap to feed them and trim their feet? This is honestly the saddest looking horse i've ever seen. Im just glad we can help him.

Grr...makes me livid too...they should make you take a horse-owning course or something...or inspect the animal's condition after a while...like 2 months after purchase, or something, or random checks, so the people couldn't prepare the horse... stupid ignorant people...

That's great though that you can "educate" those people and get the horse looking like a horse...good luck!

Ugh, it's IS sad, to think that this horse suffered for no reason. It makes you wonder how many other innocent horses are suffering due to such neglect and ignorance...

I'm glad your taking care of him now...Give him a carrot (when he's better at eating them, lol) for me!

Aww, that so sad I hate it when people don't take care of their animals. I used to watch those animal abuse shows, but they just got so sad that I stopped watching them. How people could let their horses get into that condition appauls me. I just get so sad. Its good that you can take care of him now. Lol, give him a carrot and a big kiss for me too
