Is your horse branded...?

Post pictures of your horses brand. If it (the brand) doesn't belong to you, give the background on the brand. Credits for this thread go to ladyandboo

I'll go:

This brand is on both my horses. It is Lisa Hill and Sam Man's shooting star brand and it's out of GA.

Thomas has two. The obvious one is the TOM freeze brand on his hip. The other is an arrow pointing straight up on his shoulder. It doesn't look like a hot brand, it looks more like they cut it into him. I don't know what either means, he was from Colorado originally--or so I was told.

My mare Sternlicht has an moose antlers ATA hot brand on her thigh.

One of my mares is branded, I'd like to find out about it but I wouldn't know where to start. I tried the link someone posted in another thread but didn't come up with any thing.

I also had a big black percheron with diamond 4

Wow - I've never seen anything like these! Here brands are just a bunch of letters and/or numbers unique to each horse, or initials/registration initials of the owner when it's a whole herd out on the New Forest, for example. It's commonplace to have the brand in the saddle area, so that they can't be seen when the horse is being ridden.

Brands are useful in identifying an animal, but they are neat cosmetic marks too... I love my horses brands and I always get compliments on how neat they are. But then again, I'm in PA. Not many ppl brand their horses here so when you see a branded horse you can be pretty sure it came from another state
