Here are two of my MIL's horses -

One is her own brand Rose Ryn Farms

and the other is a modified brand that her horse already had when she bought him. It was CJR connected and she added the Rose. (anyone know about the CJR?)

a lot of that really depends. You have to pay to get a brand, create a brand etc. Registration papers are a big plus with most horses as far as proof goes. A brand is an added one if your horse gets stolen but its still not a guaranteed way to prove anything, as you have to still prove its your brand and that that horse was yours and not just one you branded and sold. However there are microchips (from what I understand) for horses, that are cheaper, and you dont have to create a brand and pay for it. Branding can be painful, freeze branding is the least painful one but you still have to properly care for a brand after its done so it does not get infected etc

If you are just trying to get your ranch name stallion name etc out there a bigger trend these days is to "brand" the name so to speak. So in the case of poco bueno foals they often have Poco in the name. My instructors stallion's foals all have the first part of her stallions name, in their registered name. So its all traced back to her.

I am not overly proud of the reason behind our mare being 'branded', but here it is:

She was on the meat wagon as a completely healthy/sound two year old and rescued by a person who couldn't stand to see her go. Thus, two owners later we now have her a few years later as a six year old.

That makes me so mad. But I'm glad your giving her a second chance!

We dont know anything about her brand except that she was owned by a farmer and he abused her(cut her ear as a 2 yr old) The brand seems messed up like she moved but im guessing it should be a 22...instead it looks like a 32 with a run in with a barbed wire fence above it. And 3 owners later i have her for life!!!! previous owners reg her as an appendix
sorry these pics arent good and she looks like a saddle bred in this one because her back are in a hole.

and in these too her rump looks larger than her withers.
