Is this a barrel saddle?

I just bought this saddle and they told me it was a barrel saddle but when I got it in the mail I thought it looked a bit different. Even my friend pointed out that she didn't think it was a barrel saddle for the seat didn't seem to go up high enough. It's kinda heavy for a barrel saddle and I noticed that the horn seemed thicker than the usual barrel saddles. It's marked with the logo Hereford Tex Tan saddle on the stirup legs. It is a nice saddle and very comfortable to ride in and for once it actually fits my 7" gullet horse but the seat is 1/2 an inch bigger than it should for me at 15 1/2" but I could try to put up with it. I really need a barrel saddle so if it's not a may have to sell it . Just have to not get attached to the comfortable seat first for I am so used to the harder seats lol. If I have to sell it how much do you think it would go for? It's a 15 1/2" seat 7" gullet. Marked Hereford company Tex Tan on the sides of the stirups. Thanks.

That's good than I might keep it for awhile till I can find a lighter one for it is a bit heavy for a barrel saddle. Thanks

I think they marketed some with this style skirt for arabs back in the day too.

It is fully suitable however for barrels as it looks pretty deep with a high cantle. If it is comfy and you like it, just get a seat saver or something, to take up that little bit of extra room. I think you did well, they are nice saddles.

People think because a saddle has a round skirt that it's a barrel saddle so list it that way.
Back in the day barrel saddles looked like that. Light weight, round skirt, etc.

WHY do you have to have a barrel saddle? Why not have a saddle you are comfortable in, you ride good in and fits your horse????

Thanks, I just heard that barrel saddles seem to hug you better when turning the barrels than a normal saddle. I loved my friends newer style barrel saddle that I borrowed once, when turning the barrels but I can't afford one lol. My other saddle which is just a normal trail saddle does not seem to hug me that well. I have not really tried out this saddle on barrels yet for my horse is on stall rest but hopefully it works out. I will then have to look into those saddle seat things and maybe that will help with the small difference in seat size for me.

Definately an old barrel saddle, and a good name too. I've a simco just as old and built just like that. Drive your thigh up against the swell if you need a little extra security to take a turn and you should stay in it fine. It may not be as light or fancy as the modern ones, but I bet the quality is the same or much better then most.
