is she homozygous??

with all thses small spots, does that mean this filly is most likely homozygous??? my aunt is going to send her hairs off to be tested, but i thought that when they have small spotting like that it meant they were.

No, to the best of my knowledge pinto patterns will look the same whether or not there are two copies of the gene. Were both parents the same pattern?

I'm pretty sure they only test for tobiano...but without DNA testing, there is no way to tell.

no, she's a registered APHA filly, so both parents are registered paint horses. she is a spitting image of her mother,as for the sire, my aunt didn't say what he looks like.i know her being APHA doesn't have to MAKE both a registered paint, but in her case, they are.

see, that's what i've heard. and there is a paint farm up the road from my house, and every year the mares with the prints like that throw color. one stallion is a registered AQHA palomino stallion and the other is a registered black and white.

Are both sire and dam Tobianos or Toveros? Both Stallion and Mare must carry the Tobiano gene. We had a tobiano colt that was covered with paw prints and he wasn't homozygous, so get her tested if you want to know for sure.

The paw prints means she is more than likely, but not guaranteed, to be homozygous.

I don't understand...I don't think I ever said she wasn't? I was just asking if both of her parents were the same pattern. You can't have a homozygous horse if both parents weren't the same pattern, like tobiano. Like, if you cross a tobiano mare with an overo stallion, the foal is NOT homozygous. You could get a pinto gene from both horses (tovero) but the best it could throw would be 75% colored.

If she's registered...can't you look up her sire somehow?
