Question Is she an Appaloosa?

This is a mustang mare I'm looking at. The ranch says she's an Appaloosa, but I don't see it. Of course, I don't know too much about Appaloosa patterns.

Three more pictures of her in another section if you wanted to look or critique, but I figured these ones showed enough to give an idea of her color.

Looks to have app markings to me BUT..she will never be an appaloosa if she is a mustang. You would have to get closer to see the mottleing(sp) that show the app in her. if she has that there is a possibility that any foals she had would have some kind of spots or appaloosa roaning pattern.

Or she could be a Varnish Roan.... If she has the Appy markings I would still call her an Appaloosa, but she just could never be registered.

Pretty mare by the way...

I can't tell, does she have mottled skin around the eyes and muzzle, or on the insides high up the hind legs? What about stripped hooves? She is cute....Cathy

1. does she have white sclara, stripped hooves ( on NON-white patterned legs), Mottled skin around eyes, nose and privates? if so hse osppible has LP( leopard complex) characteristics. ANY breed cna have appaloosa patternings if it is bred into them Walkers have appaloosa patterns and so do several other breeds.

2. the photos are not good enough to tell for sure as she looks like she could be a varnish roan or a few spot or even a dirty grey. Not good enough photos of OBVIOUSLY appaloos pattern to tell. IF she has an appalosoa patterned foal from a NON-appaloosa patterend stallion however that is one way to tell for sure.

3. IF she is appaloos patterened she could not be registered with the Appaloos horse club, BUT she possibly could be registered with the American appaloosa Association. And if she is a mustang, she Can be reigstered with the American Indian horse association or one of the many Mustang registires.

Her legs indeed make her look like she has a varnish pattern on her. She can have appy characteristics without being a true App.

Looks varnish roan to me too. You'd have to wait until she shed out in the spring to really see mottling on her muzzle. Wash off her feet to see if she has stripped hooves .

Cute gal!
