I would hope not, but I certainly do see lots of photos where that is the case. Some of the photos I hate the most are in the horse magazines, they are coming down from a huge jump, rider standing up in the stirrups leaning back, white knuckled, and horses mouth gaping open.

I didn't finish watching the video... quite just before the halfway point..... I would certainly hope that this is NOT the majority of jumpers .. all I saw in this video was really AWFUL horsemanship..... and I use that term loosely.
Pain, fear and intimidation is no way to communicate to a horse under any circumstances.

It's not jumpers that are like this, it is inhumane people that are like it - regardless of what discipline they are riding or even what animal species. Unfortunately there are people all over the world that are like this and they are like it with horses, dogs, cows, other people - the list is endless. Luckily, they are in the minority and people making videos like this spend a long time looking for the clips they use.

Ive never seen anyone "saw" at a horses mouth like that!

I think these are extreme cases of people abusing the horse because it's refusing. Come on people, do you honestly think all jumpers are like that!?

C'mon people, you know that. There's people like this in every sport, we go over this every week. People who lack talent, skill, and knowledge sometimes resort to cr@p like this. No sport is immune.

Are these riders fined or penalized for this abuse?

I understand frustration but there is no reason for that kind of abuse.

Using a crop is one thing but sawing on a horses mouth like that and beating them about the head, that makes me cringe.

I realize not all riders would do that but the ones who do should be penalized and severely.
