He has ribs showing, have you wormed him recently, that can cause a small amount of weight loss that might make the ribs show more. I did have a mare that no matter how fat she got you could always see the outline of her ribs.

He is slightly underweight - but he was when you bought him too.
What are you feeding him?
If he isnt getting free choice hay then he needs to start getting it immediately and then add a feed of a good ration balancer and beet pulp to help get some flesh on him.
He's not drastically underweight but he is underweight enough that something needs to be done about it.

Looks to me like he could use a bit more. What was he fed before? What are you feeding now? How much of a budget do you have for feed bills?

POSTERS, PLEASE NOTE. This person is in Australia, your feeds are generally not available here.

Oooh dont be fooled by the price, the stuff swells up to about 20 times its start size and one bag lasts AGES. Honestly you literally use about a tenth the amount you would of normal beet pulp.

Not the way we feed. It is over $40 a 20kg bag. That works out at over a $ a pound. We would feed a kg a day or more, dry weight. Remember, we do not have grass.

Toss in a couple of big tb's and the price escalates fast. At the moment I am better off with good quality lucerne chaff for the price.
