Is he halter quality?

Do you think he would make a competetive halter horse?

Sorry but the pictures are much too small to critique anything other than that he looks quite overweight. Post some bigger ones and we'll be able to give you a better idea.

The head shot will open a new window with a larger view (at least for me) I can't get the body shot to work. I'm new at posting photos. I think this one willopen in anew window now

Depends on what level you are wanting to compete at. Suri is not a halter horse by any means, but just showing in a local association to qualify for the state show, she is winning high point. If I were to take her to an AQHA show and take her in halter, we would probably get buried alive.

He has a pretty little head though and little ears. There definitely is a lot of him!

I think he'd do alright on the Appaloosa circuit-you'd have to pull the mane though . He's looks nice and correct-but he is overweight and cresty-they like the stocky look-but the horses should not be obese, but I would try and getting him to lose the weight and gain some muscle-he doesn't need to be overweight to win if he's correct and in good condition because he's got the stockier build.

I can't tell you anymore without closer pictures and more confo shots.

Based on these pictures at ApHC shows...locally-maybe (with some real work). Higher than that...probably not. Some better pictures of him squared up and not looking at the camera would help. He has a nice hip but his front end is definately lacking. His back is quite dippy and his neck is short and wide. He has a cute head. Front and back shots so we can see the conformation of his legs would help also. All pictures with him standing square with his head looking forward

I would start with working him in the round pen (or better yet long trotting in straight lines) to get some of the weight off and build muscle. To help his back and topline get him cantering in a collected frame. When you work him have about 3-4 neck sweats on him and then when you are done working him tie him with his head up for at least an hour or two. Use that time that he is tied in cross-ties or in his stall to curry. curry, curry to get a nice coat on him.

Those are the biggest things that stick out to me. Get his back up, muscle instead of fat and sweat the c.rap out of his neck.

What are his bloodlines? How are you currently feeding him? What is your current exercise regemine? Do you ride him a lot? How old is he?

As of that photo he was on pasture only, no grain or hay. And he was butterball fat.

He goes off the be trained for saddle in a few months. Right now he is a pasture pest (aka yard ornament)

Bloodlines: Top side are AQHA bred for speed, sire is Wrangler Exchange,
Bottom side his dam is old working App lines crossed with halter lines. Impressive, Hancock, Bambi E etc.
