[quote=winkybear;4148376]Hey, these two look like twins! Do you ride them or drive them?

My horse, Ice, is a rescue too. But he is a 16 hand paint, just ordinary size.

Thanks to you for rescuing the big ones.

Thanks go to you for rescuing Ice. Do you have pics of him, a thread about him here? would love to see him.
The Shires are saddle trained..trail riding..watch out for branches though..lol..you are way up there when riding these two!

My hubby wants a draft so bad but he is afraid we couldnt afford to feed one. About how much hay does a draft need? Our place has no grass at all so would be a drylot.
I can't speak for all Draft owners as my girls are on special diets..high fat, low carbs, no sugar or whole grains, and they get additional oil.
We have special feed shipped in for them and it is a bit pricey but that is not the rule by any means.
Anna should be just fine on good hay and a feed meal this winter {once she gains her weight } and only pasture in the summer.
My girls eat about a bale of hay each per day in the winter. Anna eats about 14 lbs of feed plus about half a bale or so of hay right now plus pasture. They have access to hay in winter at all times.
Alot of drafts are "easy keepers" however but my three are not one of those..lol.But my girls are the exception not the norm as far as feeding costs and amount of food goes.
I think if you would be fine with your Draft and I hope you do consider one. They are not only beautiful but very nice riding and trail horses.

glideride, I luv bess, nikkki1990..your comments are so appreciated. We never intended to become so involved in rescue, esp with Draft horses but after I lost a beloved animal, life here at the farm took a different turn.funny how that works sometimes.
Now we are committed to getting the word out that many wonderful rescued draft horses are out there waiting for a great home, maybe yours! lol
Thanks again for visiting with Anna and offering your encouragement.

FancyAppy, thank you so much for taking the time, effort, and funds to save these wonderful giants. She looks so gentle and grateful to be in a good home. Poor baby, so skinny, and look at her poor feet. I'm sure she'll look very different a few months from now

ANNA Clyde mare 3 week progress report UPDATE

Hi everyone. These pics were taken of Anna our adopted mare last Sunday her official 3 weeks with us.
So far she has had her feet trimmed, teeth done and had a couple baths....plus lots of love and attention. She has not gained much but I think she is improving.
Check her pics at the beginning of the thread for comparison. What do you think?
