I had a mare for sale online and I got an email that was in very precise english(almost like a form letter) and the person wanted me to ship the horse over seas and that she would send me a check for shipping and the full price of the horse. She never asked for pictures or bloodlines or anything. So I sent the email to the admin. and they took it from there.

Most oversea people will either have a friend come and evaluate your horse or fly over themselves. And those are on high priced horses. Many people dont want a 350 broke down horse, and have them sent over. Test the scams. Ask them WHICH Horse they are asking about. And if they want money sent back, tell them thank you but no thank you. Or send their e-mail to me and I"ll play with them!!!

That would send up all kinds of red flags to me. First of all never give your address out, until money is in hand. You don't want some nut coming and stealing your horse. Second put yourself in the place of a buyer. What kind of questions would you ask? I'd want to know a lot about a horse before I even considered buying it. Third if the only thing this person is interested in is price, then what kind of care do you think your horse will get? You also have to ask a lot of questions of a potential buyer. If they can't answer them or sound like flaky answers then don't sell the horse. I was in the Pit Bull business for years, and advertised on my site. I never sold one of my puppies to anyone I could not meet in person. Just my personal preference. If the first thing out of their mouth was how low can you go, or are they gamey (which in Pit Bull's means they are interested in fighting) I turned them off, by saying if you don't think you can afford the price what makes you think you can afford the care, and if you want a gamey dog you're calling the wrong person. All my dogs were raised to be pets, not fighters. There were times when we had some really nice people come out to look at the pups, and after talking with them, and getting references if they needed some money off, I might lower the price and sell to them. It was important to me to see they went to a good home where they would be well cared for. I'd stay way clear of this guy. If you're asking about his intentions then you don't have a good feeling from him, and wouldn't want to sell your horse to him. JMO

My mom has a few horses for sale, and she has gotten scam e-mails this year and last year.

Last year someone from the UK wanted to pay us way more than what we had the horse advertised for, and told us that a friend from Michigan(I beleive the state was) would pick the horse up.
This year someone from Greece, wrote us an e-mail stating What is the condition and price. What does horse do? Then, about five minutes later, wrote to us again, and asked the same thing on another one of our horses for sale.
I mean come on, if ya would have read the for sale advertisement,(I typed them up for my mom) I wrote the price, if it was negotiable, if we would consider a trade, what the horse sells with(health certificate, current. Negative coggins, ect), what it will do by weaning time(lead, fly spray, ect)...and more. I guess some people out there think that everyone is stupid enough to write back to them, and actually think that they will get away with it.

I'll tell you right now that is a scam. I will predict what he tells you next. He won't even ask any information about the horse, will offer you your asking price, will state he's overseas, he will state he will take care of all shipping arrangements and costs, will state he has an american business partner who ows him money- approx $2000 - $3000 us. Will state this american will send you a certified check for the asking price of the horse PLUS the extra money this person is owed. Will mail you the certified chq and asks that you CASH IT IMMEDIATELY and forward him the extra funds. He will most likely offer you a 'bonus' of several hundred dollars for doing this for him.

The problem with this little arrangement is that the chq's are fake. The bank won't realise this until days later when they attempt to clear the chq and guess who will be responsible for replacing the cash they are out? - YOU. As long as you have money in your account or credit sufficient to cover the amount you are cashing, then most banks will cash it right there.

The scam goes just like that every time, the story hardly varies at all. It blows my mind actually. It's a red flag for me, when ever I hear - in bad english - "I am most interested in your *blank*, please reply with last asking price immediately"

It is ALWAYS the Nigerian Scammers. Send him a reply with this " MUGU!! MKPI LAA NNE GI !!! " It was taken off a nigerian website. Says someting about his mother and a goat - lol, he won't be pleased. Mugu means thief in Nigerian.

lol - good luck.

Yup, probably a scam.
Here's a link to a website where a woman baits scammers and then makes fun of them. Its hysterical to read. It may also show you some "forms" of how they write their letters. Miss B is right though, bad english is a huge give away.
