Interesting TWH show rule...

This comes from the TWH Rulebook, July 2006, page 63.

"A stallion may not be exhibited in any class in which a lady or youth is to exhibit, with the exception of Ladies' Open or Amateur Specialty Classes, and Walking Pony Classes."

Do they actually inforce this rule?

because it says that a woman cant show a stally, if im not mistaken. around here you cant show a stally if you are under 18, I understand the age rule, cuz i mean what happens if a kid is at a show with a stally and he covers a mare . It prolly would never happen but i guess they dont want to take any chances! lol but the woman thing, i totally dont get.

I understand about the under 18 thing, and its a common rule with stallions...but women?? Sorry, but I think that needs to be revised...that's just sexist, in my opinion :|

This rule has to do with a stallion named Champagne Watchout shown in 1998 by Jennie and Nathanael Jackson. They wanted to show without pads in the traditioanlly padded (and sored?) stallion class. http://www.walkinonranch.com/1999Celebration.html

VERY INTERESTING STORY!

It is sexist. But that's only the beginning. Look at the soring violations and the winning horses. http://www.soundhorse.org/usda_violations__2001.htm

I cannot believe that they know do not allow women over 18 to show stallions, I'll be contacting Mrs. Joni Jenne tomorrow and talking to her. She'll explain everything to me. It very well may be a typo.

No, it is not a typo, and Joni will explain it wonderfully to you! (she's a great explainer! ) You have to remember the history behind our breed: horses that were bred on old southern plantations. Our breed tries very much to keep a LOT of history alive in our classes, as we are very proud of it. In those days, women were "frail plantation ladies" who couldn't handle a rowdy stallion Most women aren't offended by it on our show circuit, as there are plenty of Ladies open classes and TONS and TONS of amatuer specialty classes (specialty means two gaits are exhibited). We think about it more in terms of youth than in terms of the ladies. And YES it is VERY stritctly enforced.
