Very horrible, images not for the faint of heart. Gibson County Neglect May 27 2007 Gibson County 2007 Authorities find more than 100 starving, injured, and even dead horses on a Gibson County farm. Gibson County deputies say they arrested the owner, Richard Stallings, for animal cruelty, and called in a horse rescue group. This is the third time Gibson County sheriff and rescue teams have been on his farm. Horses were emaciated, malnourished, dehydrated and some even dead. This is what horse rescue teams discovered with the Gibson County sheriff Saturday. Captain Jim Stoll, says, "It's one of the worst I've seen since I've been on the department and the problem is it's a lingering problem out here." This is the third search warrant executed on a horse farm run by Stallings, but this is just his first arrest. Someone interested in purchasing a horse saw one with flesh wounds and gangrene. Authorities were called, and the injured horse was enough reason to put Stallings behind bars. Anthony Caldwell, from The Indiana Horse Resuce, says there is sad news for some of the horses, "I'm sure some of these horses will have to be euthanized. Some of these horses have hoof conditions that will take over a year to heal." At least 50 need serious veterinary treatment immediately. Many were rescued but some don't stand a chance, mainly newly born horses who rely on their mother for nourishment. Caldwell says, "With hay quality less than average and not very much vegetation and limited water intake that's simply a recipe for disaster." Sheriff's deputies have not gotten a clear answer as to what stalling does with this horse farm, but they hope the legal system will stop him and his treatment of horses. Captain Stoll says, "Obviously with these conditions here today every horse can be another charge." This wasn't the worst case for Indiana Horse Rescue, but it's the largest. They don't have enough room and money to save all of the horses at one time. Stallings is already out $550 bond. f you would like to help with rescue efforts just contact the Indiana Horse Rescue or call the Gibson County Sheriff's office. |

I will be contacting them also. It just makes me sick what some people are capable of doing to these beautiful, magnificent, and innocent creatures!!!

Turns out this guy used to be a school teacher and this is not the first time they have taken horses away from him.

I have not heard from them either. I am going to try and call the sheriff's department tomorrow. I heard from a friend about this man's past history.

It said to email them again if you did not get a confirmation letter so I sent the email again. They are not fostering out the horses from this place but from what I understand from the website they are needing to find foster homes for the healthy horses they have on their farms now to make room for these new horses coming in. |
