| Senior Member+ | Importing frozen semen from the UK???
Hopefully someone can assist on this one that has been involved in importing semen before Does the stallion have to go into quarantine in the UK for 30 days (prior to being collected) the same as one would have to do at this end if we were shipping semen to England? Is EVA testing required on imported semen from the UK to Canada or the US? many thanks! |

Oh geez and here I got SO excited that I got 2 replies already in the first few minutes! Alligator Fontaine - hmmm ... Have to look into that one. Is there a website for him? I am looking at bringing semen in from this amazing young WB stallion, initially to do ET with Faux Finish. I'll produce one or two foals myself and then offer the remainder up for sale if they turn out as nice as I believe they will. The owner have never frozen him or any of their other stallions and dont have any idea as to to rules about importing semen into North America, so we are working it from both ends to see what we can find out ... Thanks Commanderkins - maybe it was The Plaid Horse or Horse Sport magazine??? |

These guys have a lot of information, and a lot of nice guys already frozen. SporthorseBreeder Maybe the owners could contact a company like this??? Did you investigate the website you found the Alligator Fontaine posting on? I love the detail they give for the studs on the website (International Competition Stallions Your First Choice for Frozen Semen). They have thier pick for the young up and comers too, very interesting.

Yeah - isnt Donnerhall something else?! Well - I might have to go to "Plan B" real soon! The CFIA (Canadian Food INspection Agency) that regulates semen imports into Canada, faxed me a 6 page document of rules and regulations before I can even THINK of bringing any semen in here ... Suffice to say, offering up my firstborn child AND the title to my horses, truck, trailer and home would probably be less complicated and less time consuming and CHEAPER than following what they want done A few breeders here in Canada told me that they simply import the semen into the States and then bring it up from them. The US regulations are way less complicated so the costs for the UK stallion owners are far less to comply with them and they can then ship to the States far cheaper than to Canada. And then the Canadian breeders simply bring up the semen from the US importer and its cheaper and quicker to do so ... How bizarre - adding in one more step and one more stop makes it cheaper and quicker to bring to Canada. How bizarre ... |
