Honestly! What goes through some people's heads!!??? Ok I'm venting a bit but I know you guys will understand. Our neighbours have just rescently bought two horses. Well last night the mother called me up to know if I would be interested in helping them with one of the horses (the oldest of the two - one is 3 and the other is soon to be two). Ok so first off I'm thinking sure no prob but I want info. Well I knew the mother has taken a few riding lessons from conversations I've had with her in the past so I wanted to know how much experience her 14, 12 and 9 year old girls had under their belts. WELL it seems that the girls can walk, trot, canter and do small jumps - all this having been taught to them by a 13 year old friend just down the road!! Then as I said they bought these two young horses and the 3 year old they would like to ride only problem is - they can't figure out how to get him to lunge, learn rein commands, or wear a saddle - and they don't want to fall off him in the process of training so BINGO next thought - why don't we ask someone else to do it for us. I don't know but based on the way she talked to me, it seems like she just expects me to go over their pop up on him show her that he knows walk trot canter commands and can be controlled and everything is just peachy. IF she is expecting that they have to be more out to lunch than I thought! I'm sorry but it just ticks me off when people think that 1. they know enough to handle a youngster because they've had a few lessons and can control some comatose school horse, 2. expect training to take minimal amount of time and effort and still turn out some amazing bomb proof horse, 3. and the most obvious - buy GREEN horses for GREEN riders!! How is that safe!?!? Well needless to say I'm going to help them - but I hope I can drill it into their heads enough that they should send him to a proper trainer (I'm a masters student - I don't have time to be over there every day working with him and I have my own foal and mare that I want to spend my time with) and that there is no way I'm getting on to a horse without it having any proper background knowledge of basic ground commands first - Oh gosh I'm fuming, I should of said no, but perhaps when I start showing them things they need to do with him first they will realize how much commitment this takes and send him for training instead. Grrr ok, I think I've worked it out - I'm not going to be preachy or rude I'll do my best to show them what I can in 1 hour a week and then try to convince them to send him to a real trainer. But honestly how mnay times do we have to see this before people will figure it out!? Green + Green = Red

Is the three year old even broke? Do they realize that even if they "know" hoe to jump that the horse will not be ready for some time? uugghh, no I am getting worked up. I hope that they quickly figure out that they have gotton in way over their heads.

Well when I asked for info she told me - they have been on him bare back and only leading him because he isn't confident in what to do when there is no one right beside him (hense not being able to lunge) and he will take the bit "we just aren't sure how to teach him how to turn or stop! haha" ya haha indeed and you expect someone to just hop up there and *snap* just like magic he'll know it??? I have seen them, however, leading him down the side of the road (one of the girls on him bare back) and he seems fine with passing cars - so I'm hoping he'll be laid back enough to work calmly for me (make life easier) but then again if he is a hot head then it will only make when I'm trying to say about a legitimate trainer make more sense. We shall see....

Oh good grief!! Some people really don't understand how big, powerful, and dangerous a horse can be if not properly trained or in the right hands!! They are asking for someone to end up in the hospital. I realize they did it out of ignorance, but who was the dingaling who sold them those horses in the first place? I would never sell a young horse to someone I didn't KNOW had enough experience to train it. I know, maybe they fudged to the seller, but come on!!! Somebody should've had enough sense and know-how to stop situations like this!

I know what you mean! this nenon green lady came to look at Cody...she told lies, and with the Help of Mary..we found her out. She was a "horse collector" someone who has alot of money, and just keeps buying horses. She had 1 ACRE of land in which she had 15 horses on, with NO FOOD OR WATER,NO SHELTER and she had 2 2 yr old studs 2GETHER!!! this i all find out when i paid a suprise visit! needless to say i called the spca..and they were removed.. anyways..they were all green horses themselves! I cant believe people sometimes! If i were you, i wou8ldnt offer to help them...but then i guess io would..but purely to make sure that the horse is okay during it all. no sympathy for them if teyre hurt..they were the stupid ones! okay..ive said my peace!lol
