If you were leasing a horse would you rather pay $ 175 to ride in a barn that has an indoor or pay $150 to ride in a barn that didn't? The fee is half of board. The barns are almost the same distance from school, I plan to start boarding the horse in September in Maine. Maine can be really nice during the summer, even though lately it has been raining in Maine during the summer. But come mid October it gets, cold, windy, wet, icy, and snowy to about march. The Muddy until may or June. Both barns I have been told have nice outdoors, but I don't know if the footing is wood chips or sand. What are your opinions on this. I am leasing the horse out as a English/ dressage horse.

I would go with whichever has the best footing. If one had sand/woodchips and the other has a rubber mix/coated sand then go with the latter, if they're both the same then go with the one with the indoor.

I would be willing to pay an extra $25 for an indoor, just with winter coming. (but thats just me and in my area..)

INDOOR. The $25 may result in 3x more rides.

Definitely go for the indoor. I used to live in NH, about 3 minutes south of the ME border, and the indoor was a lifesaver in the winter.

| Senior Member | I would say indoor because I have never ridden in an indoor arena, and you can't do anything outside in the winter. I feel it's too dangerous to do anything but walk when it's snowy/icy/muddy, because it's just too easy for the horse to lose his footing. Go for the indoor!
