Ideas for the 4H Saddle Club

I am brainstorming right now, because I, as the president, need to come up with fundraising. We need to make money because they want to erect a horse building (it burned down many years ago). Plus, we don't even have an account.

Here are some of my ideas, even though some probably won't work:

Take tickets at events (Rodeo, Flat track racing, demo, Sultz, etc.)
Heritage Fest (food stands, cleanup)
Sell Candy bars
Lunch stands at the Horse show (food stands are about 2 blocks away)
Flower sales
Farmer's Market
Season sales (like christmas).

I am setting goals too:
Individual Progress Record. Some people don't get involved in raisin money, and then take advantage of the money other people work. The CHILDREN must do the work, the parents are for backup (like if the kids aren't old enough).

Find Clinics in our area

Talk to the City Council about the horse barn.

I need more ideas! Our last horse club disintegrated.

Also, what would be some good meeting topics? For example, one person is holding a meeting where a vet comes out and talks about equine nutrition.....but what are some more ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I think hoofs & laminitis is a good topic.... its surprising how many ppl don't realise how dangerous it can be....

As for raising Money you could try :

raffles,
Sponsered Rides,
Get ppl to donate second-hand goods & do a big sale

GOOD LUCK...... :-)

What a great idea! I was in 4-H before I got too old , and loved it!

We didn't do a whole bunch of fundraising, ourselves, but we did have club dues every week (only 50 cents ), to help us take weekend trips places. We also had a "library" of horse books to borrow from, and worked it in with late fees and everything.

Maybe you could set up a low-key mini-clinic, with your members and their horses each having one topic or issue to cover, and using their own horses as examples...for example, have a weekend "clinic", and start out with clipping (one member with a horse good about clipping gives a demo), move onto grooming, tacking...Or if that's a little too cheesy, you could showcase your different riding styles, or something along those lines. You could also host a "New Barn Fundraiser...Pony Rides and Crafts/Snacks/Music...." sort of day.

Good topic for meetings would be seasonal sorts of things, like winter care as winter comes on, or getting ready for shows as spring nears. Tack cleaning is always a good activity to both get your tack clean and learn the parts of the tack, as well. You could each have an assignment one week, to bring in some obscure piece of tack you found (or a picture of it), and what you've found out about it to share with everyone. We had competitions (like Horse Bowl) that could be a bit of anything horse related, including obscure tack, bits, feed....

I hope that helps a little, or sparks something you might be able to use . (I miss 4-H)

When I was in 4-H and my riding club, we did a lot of different fundraisers.
We held jackpot events and fun days, those very profitable.
We would ask some local riders who were fairly well-known in the area and good at events to hold clinics either as a donation or discounted rates. Then, each child was required to bring some sort of pot luck food and we would sell it the clinic.
We would hold tack information seminars with local tack stores. These are great if you can get the tack store owner to donate their time. It's good for their buisness as well as a good way to bring some extra money.
We would hold car washes a lot. We would also go to local rodeos and shows and have the car wash there, then we would offer to wash horse trailers, you can charge more for them.
Ask tack shops to donate items for raffles, and ask clinicians or trainers to donate training sessions for raffles.

For our club we are doing a 50/50 raffle. You sell tickets for $1 or 6 for $5 and then you take what you make, split it and draw a name. The club keeps half and the winner takes the other half. It is always fun to do that.

Or have a tack store donated and plaster their name all over for advertising and raffle off something they give you.... People love raffles..

Will post more later, off to a customer site!~!!

Our local 4-H raffels off a horse every year at the county fair. The 4-H'ers find a big breeder willing to donate a colt or filly to the club as a tax write-off and the 4-H gets the money from the tickets. Last year somebody donated a two year old black and white paint gelding. There tickets were 1$ each or $5 dollars for 6. They made a couple thousand dollars off the horse. Even if you had to pay a little bit for a colt you would still proably clear a pretty good profit.

I think people would pay more then a $1.00 for this kind of raffle! I would pay $5 in a heartbeat- especially if it came from a good breeder...then you have 5 times the profit! Justa thought.....

Here at the Midwest Horse Fair, they do the horse raffles here also. They go over huge. And I know someone who won a Percheron Filly. Her name is Raffle. And it was a $5 raffle ticket. Raffles are wonderful ideas!

As a 4H leader I was always amazed at the support that came from past members that are now part of the business community . Get the message out to them and stand back!!!

Hey, consider a "tack" raffle too. I know I'm participating in one here this year, I have a few awesome bridles and such I can easily part for charity!
