LOL Chester, I must be a horrible mommy too. My horses (all 5) are in a 3 acre lot with open access to a shelter about as big as a 2 car garage. They get no blanketing, occasionally get grain but mostly just hay and never get ridden in the winter, occasionally in the summer. Mostly they get lots of hi's in the morning as I'm leaving for work and a good petting and maybe a treat once in a while after work if the weather is nice enough. The water trough, well they have one and it always has water, but gosh darn it, I just hardly get the chance to scrub it down with soap and water so it sparkles every day. Ya know, they are so fat it's insane and WE trim hooves only when they need it, No farrier, we fired him and do it ourselves now. A good farrier is next to impossible to find around here.
Don't they look just so abused and neglected?? LOL this picture was taken Saturday. They are standing in what use to be my front yard but since we are moving the house in the next month to another part of the property, we let them go ahead and have it.

I don't understand why you would post this in the "Rescue" section. It seems like you are just trying to stir things up.

I think your horses sound great - happy, natural and free to be horses. The ones in the barn 24/7 sound unnatural and stilted. But to have the sarcastic post about it in the rescue section seems a bit odd.

(and for what it's worth I think the muddy monster looks really, really happy).

Me, stir trouble. No. Just trying to make people think about what is a rescue with a bit of humour.

I prefer humour to nasty.

Suzanna when you have been here longer you will realize alot of people say they rescues a horse because it wasn't getting any attention.. or that the people didn't feed it, or that it didn't have shelter...when in all reality that horse is in the "NATURAL" enviroment..which is where they belong to a point

I think Chester's point in this thread is that horses really dont' need alot of "extras" that we give them and preach about on here...

And yes my Mudmonster is a very happy horse

Hahaha, then my horses are going to just drop dead any day!

They stand out in 8 acers of pasture with a run in and get some water grain and hay thrown at them every day.

In the summer, they just get water!

Yep, on death's doorstep. Especially that 40some year old....

SL I know what you are saying. My ponies are weekend warriers that stay outside with no fancy stuff.

They are family though and I don't think they are neglected even though I am sure there are some that could argue that point.

I don't think you will find Sunshine and Blacky complaining. They are the most pampered horses on the mountain even without the extra stuff. They are loved...

lol awesome post its soo true! lol personally I think horses would rather stand in a field than be worked! haha I have never cleaned the water trough in Gracie's field she wears a blankie but thats because I hate winter coats and I hate rain rot so HELLO RAINSHEET lol when I bring her in I give her a scoop of grain and other than that she gets her hay and grass and she has no shelter and she doesn't live in the barn! happy horse? YOU BET!

Chester I think that you are too cruel and should give your horses to me. Oh and you can send your Chick to play with my Chick too. LOL.

The last horse that I had spent her days in a big pasture hanging out - just grass to eat - no grain - no tank - just a pond to drink out of.

Some people do forget that horses can be horses. I always laugh when people say - how are you going to be able to afford a horse - horses like many other things are only as expensive as you wish to make them.

Good post.
