I will continue on promoting the Arabian as an Eventer

Arabians are brave, quick, agile, willing, and have good lungs and outstanding endurance. If trained correctly they aren't all "star-gazers" and can be amazing dressage mounts and jump mounts.

Stormy was my inspiration. I HATED arabians before him. I thought Arabians were crazy nut-cases, good for nothing but Halter and Park. Stormy proved me wrong.

So here is a thread, promoting Arabians as sport horses. Not just Eventing, but Hunters/Jumpers, and Dressage.

Here are some sites and videos you may all find cool:

You Go Girl!!!
Absolutely arabians can do it all! My mare could've easily done that, but an injury several years ago cut her time on the trails short. But she could jump, beat out WB's in Dressage, and was a great all around trail horse. She stands like a statue for my massage classes, and quickly becomes everyone's favorite patient (I don't tell them she's a 'crazy arab' till after the class ).
Keep on spreadin the word!

Of course!! Who do you think the warmbloods bred to for spirit, movement, and mind? My oldenburg's famous granddaddy was Inschallah, an anglo arab, and he was a very influential stallion.

Agreed 100%!
My boy is amazing - he will try anything I ask him to do and try his hardest. The best horse I've ever ridden.

I wish I could remember....But there was a little Arabian mare (literally, pony height). She went to inspection for one of the WB registries for approval into the breeding books...She had great conformation and OUTSTANDING performance abilities (gaits and jumping...jumping 4'6" oxer with impecable form) and she went FAR in the registry. I think I was told she got full registration, not approval, rights.

I think the biggest thing that is going to push OTTB out and Arabs in (at least to some extent) is health.

Arabians keep weight much easier, have stronger legs and feet (in general, but not always) and last longer. They also can be found OTT if you know where to look.

I am a big Anglo Arabian fan myself.

Arabs for me are to small, most of them.Im tall, and mostly for functional reasons I want a bigger horse. However I do like them, I owned half a one. Some that measure pony can be really cute hunters.

I think arabs would be more popular if they were more widley breed as sporthorses. Although lots of them do make great jumpers and eventers.

There actually is quite a bit of arabian sport horse breeding going on.

And arabians can be quite large. Both height and width wise.

I have to agree that Arabians can be one of the most versatile breeds. And the make lovely crosses with a variety of breeds as well.

My Thoroughbred stays fat off of air, has great feet, and great legs.

With that said, it takes a certain TYPE of arabian to do well in the eventing world. Not every arabian can jump, in fact I know a LOT of them that can't. But when bred for it, or even sometimes when not bred for it, they can certainly excel at jumping.

I think another problem is while I see a lot of Arabs who can jump well I don't see a ton who can jump amazingly high. I know I know they are out there, but again I am saying majorities here. I think at lower level eventing, yes they can be great. Now Rolex style... not so sure if the typical arab can.

Please don't bring up Teddy O'connor either. He has a good amount of Tb in him and he was BRED to do what he does.

But yes.. Arabs can jump. Stormy (my Stormy) did 3 day eventing with his old owner.

Here he is doing his favorite thing, jumping, with me. He is 14.1 hh by the way and I jumped him up to 3'9" (but I didn't get him till he was 18 so he might have been able to go higher when he was younger)
