![]() | I was wondering something about color. I have a rose gray mare and I was thinking of breeding her to a beautiful sorrel gelding. Does anyone know what in the world kind of color I might expect to get out of the two. You can see a pic of him here Flashy Playgun |

![]() | I think the probability will be higher for sorrel/chestnut as it is the more dominant color. But it's really a matter of odds, one can't predict with certainity. |

I will find a site for you that will give you the actual % chance of each color, but I do know that greys are dominant. Also the color at birth depends on the base color of each parent as there are only 2 base colors and that is red and black. Since you have a rose grey I am assuming that she was a red at birth before graying out so since you are breeding to chestnut stud you should have a chestnut at birth that will go grey. |

If you have a red roan of sorts, and you want to breed to that bay, which shows red in his coat, you'll end up probably with a red base, so a Chestnut, bay, sorrel, and roan are probably the chances you are looking at. Since you have a roan, the gray won't come from the roan since she has homozygous recessive for the non-gray. Same with Bay. THey are Homozygous Recessive in the non-gray gene too. SO, your gray chances are probably Zero. Unless your horse IS a gray, then you have a 50% chance of throwing a Gray since the Gray gene is dominant overall. Here's a site that I reference often. There is another, and I can't remember it for the life of me. http://community.webshots.com/s/imag...2qanUEl_fs.jpg

![]() | I found a gruella and a blue roan. I would like to keep the unusual color. I really don't care what color it is as long as it's healthy. Of course the color is just icing on the cake. I'll try to find them so that ya'll can see them...they are gorgeous!! |
