Unhappy I Think I Made My Point.... Finally

I wrote this to my aunt awhile ago and I just now found out that she recieved it. Don't get me wrong, I love my aunt it's just she never spends time with me or my brother. She's always with her boyfriend in Chicago. She hardly ever sees us and when we go up there so my mom can get her nails and hair done (my aunt's a beautician sp?) she pretty much sends us away. She doesn't like kids in her shop, not even her own niece and nephew . Yea yea, I know it's her buisness but no one knows how much it hurts to be sent away by your own aunt. Okay enough talking I'll let you read the letter know .

Aunt Audra,

I have a question for you.Why don't you ever spend time with us? Really the only time we get to see you is Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and our birthdays. I rarely get to go up with my mom when she gets her hair cut and nails done. How come you're always with J.R. when you could be with spending time with us? In my opinion spending time with your neice and nephew is more important than spending time with your boyfriend that you only see on the weekends. You rarely get to see us and I wish we got to see each other more often but we live to far away. We should cherish the time we have to see each other since it's not very often. I'm sorry but I had to voice my feelings. I hope you understand.

Love,

Devin

Yep... that could be why she never spends time with you.

I love my nieces and nephews an awful lot. Feel the same way about my aunts and uncles. Clearly your aunt is not a "kid person" or has other priorities in her life... which she absolutely has the right to. Did you discuss this letter with your mom before you sent it? If I were your aunt, I would be very put off by such a whiny, demanding letter and would not feel the urge to see you in response. No offense.

It could have been done SO much better... how about something nice and polite, respectful, like, "Hey Aunt, we miss you! Would you mind if we come up with mom the next time she's in your shop so that we can visit for a bit?" I wonder if anyone's thought of your aunt's feelings regarding your mom bringing the kids to her shop. Perhaps a more respectful tone, simply asking to see her sometime soon, would have helped you to gain more ground.

My mom read it, of course. She wouldn't let me send it if I hadn't. My mom said that it would be better because then it would hit her at home and make her think about it. I'm sorry to say it but I don't like her boyfriend. Now, I know it's not my life and I'll have to accept him, which I am just very slowly. All I know is that she was in tears when she read it and realized how I felt and what she had done. I know it may of sounded snotty, whiny, whatever you want to think but at least I wasn't shy to show my emotions.

Jenje! I would LOVE to ask her to spend more time with me and see her more often but I can't . She says she never has time for us. Now, I will be able to spend time with her December 29th because she is taking me X-mas shopping so that makes me happy to be able to be with her. I'm sorry it sounded whiny.

Oh my gosh. Your aunt is VERY kind.

You can't ask her if you can come and see her sometime, but you can send her a very pointed letter complaining that she never makes time for you? Oookay... maybe I just don't get it.

I know she is and I love her sooo much it's hard to explain. I'm just happy she knows how I feel now.
