| Senior Member | I really need help with training Tamber**Please help** OK Well I have been riding Tamber all summer long............working on slowing the lope down, and other stuff. I just don't know what to do any more her lope as slowed down but her head is high? what can i do to help her lower it. And she seems to not want to listen when we are riding with my neighbor and her gelding. she wants to turn her head and walk towards him, well you know every thing else she does. and How do I get her to lope and trot in a circle with out wanting to go off some were else with out a round pen? her lope his better in a round pen but i want to be able to lope and trot without a round pen. I would like to ride her on loose reins and not have them not loose I really need help and any tips would be great.

First of all, what kind of bit are you using?

Okay, lots of questions here. Pictures of a video would help, because there are so many variables. For her head being high, this is either conformation, she's not relaxed, or she's strung out. Even a combo of all three. Riding with a pal, sounds like she needs you to let go of her head. The basic way to fix horse soar or barn soar horses is the make them work (lateral circles) beside the other horse, or at the barn, and let them rest away from the 'draw trigger.' For loping and jogging in a circle - Make it DIFFICULT to be outside the circle. Pick a circle in the arena, basic circle. Find the middle. Lope off, everytime she leaves the circle, pull her into the middle, release. The KEY here is to NOT harass or annoy her when she's on the circle, and to only pull in one direction, on one rein, only as she leaves your imaginary circle. This teaches many things. Steering, circling on a loose rein, suppleness and demands her to listen. It also teaches speed control since you don't pull bakc on two reins, the horse isnt going anywhere but a circle, so he slows down and relaxes.

Just upload it to YouTube, you can then embed it here.
