There is many whiting shampoos that you can buy. Try Man O' War (not designated for whites). This shampoo worked wonderful on my horses socks and face.

For the socks: Clip the socks before a show. This takes off the old, stained hair. Plus, shorter hair is easier to clean. Then wash with a whitening shampoo and leave it set for the amount of time instructed. Do this twice. If there are still stains, use a spray on stain remover (like Cowboy Magic Green Spot Remover). Then if you still need to, rub baby powder or grooming chalk into the hair while the socks are still damp.

Wash the white mane, tail, socks with regular people shampoo to start and rinse, wash with the "purple" ligtening type shampoo for horses, rinse, do another use of purple shampoo if necessary leaving the shampoo in for about 5 min. Rinse. Next use vinegar and let set. Rinse. If the above doesn't work, try laundry bluing. I couldn't find laundry bluing but didn't need to with the above regimen which came from an article in John Lyons magaizine. Worked well for me.

tail whitener for the mane and tail and chalk for the socks when you go to shows (regular blackboard chalk) bit of a hassle for every day but for shows it works wonders. Good ol ***** liquid works brill on stable stains and grass stains. Lou
