I Need Some Quick HGS Help!

OK so I just talked to a friend of mine that just lost one of there ponies this afternoon. the pony was eating and drinking fine, but had really runny munure. This morning the ponies munure was extreamly runny, and this afternoon the pony died. He called the vet and the vet said he has treated 5 horses with the same problem in the last 3 days. He said it had something to do with the horses eating some kinda of fly? Can anyone shed some light on this and how to prevent this, what exactly atracks this type of fly? Or just any info at all? Thanks any help would be fantastic. All my horses seem fine, but I wanna know how to prevent this.

Hmm that's interesting. I've never heard of that happening before... I'll definitely be watching this thread.

Sounds like PHF (Potomac Horse Fever)?
Horses get it by eating infected Cadis flies.

I found more sites with info by googling "Caddis" vs. Cadis - here's my search results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...disfly&spell=1

Since I don't have first hand experience with PHF, I'm wondering if a horse eating any sort of "infected fly" (since we know they're dirty creatures to begin with) would cause the same symptoms...and would it still be PHF, or is PHF actually limited to Cadis/caddis flies?
