Saddle widths, I believe, are like womens' dress sizes... every manufacturer has their own standard for what is considered medium or wide width. Some makers run narrow, others run wide. If you know what width you need in cm go with that as it is far more accurate than saying your horse needs a "medium" tree.

Each saddle company is different as Aurical said. Even one company's 31cm is different than another's 31cm.

What brand is the saddle? My Stubben is a 31cm which counts as a medium-wide, but they must run a bit narrow because it fit all of the thoroughbreds I've put it on. Stubben's sizing are:

29cm = Narrow
30cm = Medium-narrow
31cm = Medium-wide
32cm = Wide

The saddle I was looking at that is a 31cm, is a Courbette Stylist.

The one that I said is a 31.5 cm is my current Stubben Seigfried( Which is older, and I believe they don't use .5 sizes anymore?)

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

Ok, mine is a Stubben Siegried is a 31 and it's a bit wide, but fits even narrow horses well with a good pad. I'd say a 31.5 would be a wide medium-wide, lol.

I'm not sure what Courbette sizes are like.

when I was searching for an english I kinda cheated and converted to inches, measuered my old saddle (western) in inches and subtracted to what she needed since it was too wide, viola, great fit. XD

That's often a good start when it comes to looking for saddles. Takes some measurements on a saddle that fits your horse really well and find a saddle that fits those numbers. But again, not every saddle fits the same. Each brand and model of saddle has its own contours in the tree.
