Question I Need Help! I'm Pregnant, and I want to continue riding

Ok, so I have heard MULTIPLE opinions....mostly from people who have no idea about riding. But I found out a couple weeks ago that I'm pregnant, and everyone is giving me grief saying that I can't ride... now I have talked to a couple doctors who say that riding is ok, as long as you're careful, and take the proper percautions. But then there are other doctors who turn their noses up and say absolutly not. I did alittle riding while I was pregnant with my son, and everything was ok. Actually that doctor said it's a great idea because it lowers my stress and it's what relaxes me. I just want to know if anyone else rode while pregnant? I know it comes down to my choice, but I could use some "motherly" advice. Thanks!!!

I rode past my 8th month - nothing wild - just trail rides.

The Dr. said that the stomach muscles that I had from years of riding helped me with my 3 hour delivery and rapid bounce back.

Go for it - as long as you trust your horse and aren;t doing anything wild.

I've always heard that if you have been riding for years than your body (womans area) is toned enough to handle it while pregnant. If I'm ever prengant you better believe I'l still be ridding, but noting dangerus.

just remember horses are unpredictable and it could take just one shy from your horse and one fall to injure or loose your baby.

I strongly suggest you don't do this, but- my trainer rode up until the day before she had her baby.

I know that if I am ever pregnant I will definetely be riding, provided I have a solid horse under me, no youngsters!

My old trainer rode well into her 8th month. She was GALLOPING RACE HORSES till 6 1/2 months. But she never had a problem... except her kids being horse crazy....

Eesh. I wouldn't risk racing, galloping, any of that stuff if I were pregnant.
However, I would continue to ride. Especially if you did it before and had no problems.

If I get pregnant, by the time I do, Apache will be 18 years old. Perfect age for a good ol' plodder trail horse!! And then he'll be like, 25 when my kid starts riding! Perfect timing!

Lol... sorry, that's kind of odd that I have it planned that way.

I will also add that half this baby belongs to it's father...how does he feel about you riding?

If it were me...I don't know that I could put myself in an increased (even just a little) dangerous situation knowing that I was carrying a baby. Even just handling horses is scary...I'd hate to think what would have happened if this kick had landed any lower or on my belly... If you are interested in seeing the photo (the mods removed it) I will gladly show it to you...

No horse is 100% bombproof...

Lots of people do it, lots of people dont. Someone at my stable literally rode until she went into labor.

Bottom line is, discuss it with your doctor, and do what you feel comfortable with.
