Question I looked at horses today! Should I make an offer on him?*** UPDATE**Bought him***

So I went and looked at three horses today... I liked one.

SO the one I liked... He is a SWEET heart! So nice calm love him to death.
He's currently 16.3hh
an OTTB, sound no past injuries
3 years old
cute mover not excellent mover but certainly nice

He is still slightly downhill and WILL mature to 17hh 17.1hh he also has TONS of filling out to do. He has been ridden 10 times since august so I got on him after he hasn't done much of anything for a few weeks he walk trot cantered and popped a few cross rails(his first time o/f) very nicely, very agreeable, did everything I asked. Really wanted to please.
My only concern...
He's only three. I was told he was five but apparently the vet was out yesterday and told her that he was still three and she had his age mixed up with his full brother.
This seller is EXTREMELY motivated and I could get him for a nice price.

Now do I make an offer and just take my time in training ( I had planned more on getting going and showing this summer a lot) but I am in a position that I can wait. OR do I pass and look for something better.
The horse market in my area is bouncing back like crazy. I had planned to see 6 horses today and 3 sold within the last week. I don't think I could find a better deal...

Pictures.... I am 6' and he IS 16.3h haha I make him look tiny.
Also keep in mind he is growing and needs to fill out.
Thanks!

I like him alot Kim, I think he'd make a really nice prospect. If you can get a good price on him, I'd go for it Having him at that age is nice too, and I bet you he will fill out alot!

Thanks so much Ashley!
I'm still waiting for my trainer to call me back so I can go ahead and make an offer. I figure since she'll be working with him at her barn her opinion is pretty important! haha

He's cute, but what are your plans? Are you willing to wait till he's older to start jumping him? Or would you like something now you can jump?

My 2 biggest concerns seen from the photos shown are that he is VERY steep in the shoulder & the hinney; more-so than I would be confortable buying. I find his neck is set on lower than I like as well, however, I don't think it's bad for H/J. That being said, I don't know your end goals, so he may be perfectly fine for what you want to do.

My biggest concern is that he's an OTTB and he's 3. What made him retire from the track at such an age? Did he decide that he didn't like it, or was there some other health issue?

I agree with R 'n B...steep shoulder and low neck...but agree Hunters may work for him if he's got that time of movement. He looks rather well for a 3 year old and doesn't look bum high unless you are standing up hill a little. Looks rather filled out to me...doesn't look like the thin (racey type) 3 year old TB I'm used to seeing. Legs look good to me too.

He's cute, not amazing to me necessarily but could be nice, and if you fit eith him he may be perfect.

Thanks everyone!

WELL...
I talked to my trainer and she LOVES him. Thinks he's going to mature into a really nice looking horse 17.1h +. I will be taking my time and doing lots of ground work and flat work to make sure he gets some good growing time!

I made an offer of $2000 on him this morning and his owner took it. He has already been vetted last week to help move along his sale. He passed and is UTD on everything. She is also driving him the 7 hour journey at her own expense to make sure he is going to a great home!
His conformation isn't 100% but also nothing stuck out to me and said no. Hopefully he'll mature into really something! I guess we'll see!
Thanks again for the comments everyone!
You'll be seeing a LOT more of this boy!

They had his age wrong on the track... he trained and never raced, too slow and immature "for his age". They had him as a 2005 insted of a 2006 which he is. So he was training a little younger than I'd like to see but he only trained briefly.
Great track breeding too. He's one of John Sessa's horses and he's by Partener's Hero
