Normally I like to get on them as long 2 yr olds (at least 2.5) and put about 30 days under their belts, let them grow up for the rest of the winter and start back to work in the spring as actual 3 yr olds, this seems to help them be REALLY READY to 'work' at 3 but with this girl, I'd definatley wait until she was an honest 3 before I backed her the first time.

Between that and her matching your mare, it must be some sort of sign.

Wyld, I would definitely not consider having her backed until next spring. I do think I will start her on driving this fall and winter, but it will be really easy stuff with just a little lightweight cart. She still needs to learn to longe, accept a bit and saddle and all that. We'll just play it by ear and see how she does.
