What kind of brush are you using? She could be sensitive in that area. Talk to her while you are doing it. If she gets ancy, have an experienced horseman hold her for you.

Cool

Heya!

Chantel used to do that..She still does it now unless you talk to her and pat her on the butt lovingly The more you handle her, it may help

Dont use a brush. Give her a feed, something that she can chew on for awhile and then use your fingers to "pull the tail". It is tedious but you will loose very little tail. I just did my stallion today because I thought it needed it. He tucked into his feed then went into a semi sleep state. He is used to it and I guess he licks it because there is no pulling of the dock that you get using a comb. A bit of baby oil, not to much, helps to get your fingers in and separate the individual strands

Arabs are extremly sensitive when grooming, tacking up ect..some horse will allways naturally be inclined to hunch up around belly, and rump regions.
use the softest bristle brush you can find,ie-body brush, you should be standing to one side of her hind anyway to groom her tail, separate a few hairs at a time, and brush the ends out first, working you way up to the dock, and continue untill its all done,a little babyoil or detagler will help but be sure not to get it on the actual dock or skin,as it will burn in the heat!never use a comb on the mane or tail,as it will pull hairs out.try brushing her tail after she has worked this will help as she will be a little more relaxed, and in the event of a single hair being pulled out by accident her pores would be open and not cause her any pain.

I think it is because brushing the tail is a definate NoNo. Try separating the strands by hand. Using a brush can break hairs that take years to replace, hope this helps. Happy Trails
