If there's a reason for their body condition and the owner is doing what is necessary for the horses, he can provide that info to AC.

Some folks are not comfortable with confrontation. I would rather someone make a phone call, even if unnecessary, than to keep quiet and allow the suffering of an animal to continue.
You make some great points. Yes, he can explain himself to the AC. I agree that it's better to call if your to afraid of controntation then just ignoring it.

i think you did the right thing...yes some other things may be a factor than starvation but if you said something its kinda awkward...its better to let him work it out with authorities...they know what to ask and look for.

ive been in a situation where we adopted a sick horse and at first looked bad and we got called on..but the AC was really nice about it and came out and asked us about him...they were very cooperative and let us inform them on the situation rather than just doing somethng while we werent there...

I applaud youfor calling...many times people dont but its better to be safe than sorry and those horses will go somewhere great and loving if it really is a starving case

You did the best thing you could do for those horses.
There MAY be other issues, but as others have said, he can provide the information to AC. If you had asked him, there's no telling what he may have said to lie about why they're that way, so he could avoid saying he couldn't afford to feed them. And then if you called AC he would definitely know who would have done it.
Let us know what happens!

I will call AC in the morning to find out what happened. I know what I seen and know that he is without a doubt starving the horses! My husband knows him because he used to work with him, He only works 1 day a week and has 2 kids. So that right there would explain why he does not have money. I gauss you wouldn't call him a friend but he is someone we know and have helped out. When he wanted his gun fixed my husband and I fixed and cleaned the gun and stored it for a year and only charged him $10 Then he wanted parts to build his own computer and wanted my husband to help him put it together, we only charged him $100 for everything (Thats a darn good price if you know the cost of computer parts). That is when I seen the horses, they are pastured in a 3 acre field with no grass and There was NO Hay! He does not have a vet for the horses so I know it is not a medical problem that has been seen.
Well my Husband is calling for my help :P If you have any more questions let me know and I will try to answer then the best I can

Thank You everyone this has really made me feel better about calling AC.

That's what AC will determine when they visit

I somehow doubt the medical treatment considering the conditions and choices made here. However I do commend the OP for taking action. Better to take action, then to take none at all. People will tell you anything these days. Whether it is buying a horse or selling a horse, or even condition of horses. I had a "friend" who told me everything under the sun to the reasons her horses showed ribs year round. The family belief and solution to their mares not looking so poor.... breed them. They fatten up and look better then. Many of their horses are in the lower numbers. One horse was shot in the head by a previous owner, and they keep her and ride her even though she is "sometimes" unsafe. Another broke her shoulder at one time. They may ride her but I'm not sure as I no longer speak with them except kindly every once in a blue moon. Horses have died here and there over the years. I wonder why. I was told I feed my horses too much.

I have to say that I myself have had AC called on me for a skinny horse that I had... For three days, lol!

While it was an irritant that I, as a horse lover, was trying to save a horse and yet was accused for her condition, it was a *relief* that AC was doing their job.

The OP did the right thing. If there are any extenuating circumstances, the owner will be able to clear them up, if they are legit.
