| Senior Member+ | My mom owns a pure, beautiful Arabian mare and we would both like to breed her. She has DEFINATLEY shown an interest in stallions(Even geldings) But we read that new mom's don't always take the best care of foals. is this true? |

| Senior Member+ | Many new mommas get "coddled" and owners interfere in the process, which can cause new mommas to not do what they need to do. It's all instinctual. Most do fine, but if owners start making a lot of noise, get into the stall, etc, momma won't do it. Then there are a rare few that don't have the instincts kick in, but they are rare if everything else is ok.

![]() ![]() | Well, new momma's (or maiden mares) can have a difficulty being a first time m0other. They are not used to the sucking of the foal(some may need to be held w/ a halter and lead rope to let the foal nurse). And yes there are great first time momma's there is justa better chance of a maiden mare not taking as well of care of her foal as an experienced broodmare. Just keepa close eye on the mare and have a vet notified when the mare is getting close to foaling so that he/she is aware of the situation(if you have a situation) incase you call him/her with an emergency. |
