I have a .... Dilemma

And here it is... I absolutely ADORE jumping and want to do Grand Prix level show jumping one day... Anyways, for the past year, I have been absolutely petrified of it! And unfortunately, have avoided it... Maybe I'm still getting over the shock of New horse, new barn and new trainer... But I do really want to get back to flying over those jumps, but I think I'm letting the fact that I haven't jumped in now 4 years (because I had stopped riding for a bit and the trainer I had that made me want to take a break only did flat work and no jumping), get to me. My trainer is a perfectionist (more so than most ) and I think, for some reason, I am very afraid that my positioning will be horrible and she'll yell at me! Even though I know she wouldn't and would help me get back into what I used to be able to do...

If that made no sense whatsoever, I appologise, but I think I'm just trying to figure out what is stopping me from jumping. Do you have any ideas or similar stories, or suggestions to help? I know I will love it once I get back into it, but it's getting myself over that first jump that is proving to be a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Trainers are there to help you, not make you feel like an idiot. If your jumping position was already perfect, she'd be out of a job.

A good trainer will do thier job and help you improve.

don't be scared. you'll be fine. you've jumped before. you're not starting all over, just pickin up where you left off. start small, don't think about it so much, take a deep breath and relax.

i agree with CowGirlUp1833.

maybe if you start small on your own and once you think you're okay with the small one, jump bigger with your trainer. Good luck!

You'll be fine! It's always a little scary for difficult to get back into things that you used to do!
I took a break from riding for...3 years, and was terrified when I started riding again that my position would just suck and I would be a crappy rider...
Well position didn't 'suck' but it wasn't great after that long lol but over time I've gotten better, and I will continue to do better, even after this year long absence!
You'll do fine, just start off small and work your way back up! And do it on a confident horse to get your confidence back up!
