I don't pay much attention to who is what kind of trainer, other than Clinton Anderson. I love his methods. He is firm, but kind. He doesn't baby his horse and doesn't abuse them , he isn't unneccessarily harsh with them either. I have people tell me how to do certain things with my horses, etc. I just ignore them. To their face I will just smile and nod, but in reality I don't agree and as soon as they walk away I go back to what I was doing. If you are not abusing your horse, you are doing what you feel is best than keep at it and ignore everything else. (it is like someone telling someone else how to raise their children, to each his own)

| Senior Member+ | Pretty good analogy. It looks good, smells good and seems to make you feel good to "go Natural". At least until you look closer at the "dirty underbelly" of the beast. Then you see all those "natural worms" that thrive inside because killing them would be unnatural as chemicals are used and really, there is no general certification for "natural" so each "natural" promotion means entirely different things depending on who's doing the "natural" thing. And so on..... So yes, quite apt used that way.

I meant in the world, there is a lot of knowledge (hence the words "out there" instead of "in the thread") Use what works best for your situation, everyone is an individual they have to make their own decisions regardless of what advice people may offer.. And there are a lot of good posts in the thread. One of the mods did mention they were trying to weed out the **** and leave the pertinent posts which is why I mentioned it. Penelle

I think the big picture with NH is in the starting of the young horse. In days gone by, the baby was snubbed to a post with a hind leg tied up, sacked out, then introduced to a saddle and rider to "buck it out" and that was one of the more humane approaches.

I haven't read all the posts, just keeping this alive ( wicked grin Seriously though, with all the informational videos / books / clinics out there.... why not pick and choose the parts that you feel work for you and your method of training / or skills . This does not replace having someone with more experience to work with you when it gets beyond your capabilities... but can help you to decide when finding a trainer if their way clicks with what you feel best for your horse. In years past, before information Hwy. became so available... many people just took things ( training ) at face value from who they knew or recommended by someone else , when as we all know.... one size does not fit all. I do believe that the horses benefit the most from learning / implementing many different approaches in their early learning stages and that is one good thing that has came about from all the Natural Horsemanship hype A little OT here, but until I found this site.... I didn't have a clue on what constituted a good feeding program, so I waded through those topics and became better educated.... same as with training, thanks to the people who dedicate themselves to teaching a better way and putting the info out there for others like me
