If this thread is just going to get reincarnated over and over, let's just save the trouble and sticky it.

But as Sharpspal said "Natural Horsemanship" is a misnomer. I'll give that you can read the horses' body language and use it. But riding a horse is NOT something you see in nature, I will be able to space-jump like Samus (basically a rolling jump that carries you higher and higher for an infinite time. Yeah I played too much Metroid. ) before you see a horse in the wild all tacked up!

Again, to reiterate the line between abuse and discipline is very hazy, a corrective "elbow parry" when your horse tries to bite can become an abusive hit if it is done a little too hard.

Unless it's to the point of injuring or your deriving some sorty of sick pleasure out of it what you gave just mentioned is not "abuse". Abuse is not a hit done "a little to hard". Horses kick each other harder then what we could ever hit a horse with our hand or elbow.

We humans are way to concerned with having to label things. The abuse tag gets thrown around way to much in our society. We want again to attach human labels that go along with human feelings to our horses.

Natural Horsemanship is not or has it it been to duplicate a horses existance as it would be in nature. The fact that we own horses, have domesticated them and place them in an environment of somewhat confinement, keeping them from being able to roam free, is going against as it would be in nature.

Playing the game of symantics with words is I guess what keeps this thread going and going.

LOL, semantics this:

I am a trainer. I learn from each horse and each horse teaches me a world of lessons. I follow the horse, not a name!

I am not saying if that I am for it or against it. But I don't believe we should be smashing this. You don't see natural horsemen SMASHING our dressage, cross country, jumping, western pleasure do you?

And I do agree though its a little hookey, but who cares if it makes someone feel good about themselves and their horses relastionship...
you said it lorin!

If I take your point of view, then domesticated dogs and cats no longer ever act like the predator creatures they ARE, and we shouldn't expect any more baby bunny/mouse/deer/chimpunk/HUMAN killings? Cool, I like that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LMFAO!!!

Actually, yes, it's been done many times by the BNT. Now, are you going to make me quote her?

where in any NH method, DVD or advertisment do they say that their way is the only TRUE way to connect with a horse? where?!

Natural horsemanship is a way to communicate and build relationships with horses based on a language they understand. You use love, language, and leadership in equal doses rather then fear, mechanics and intimidation.
Straight from the 'head' horses mouth.
In other words, if you don't practice NH, then you use 'fear, mechanics and intimidation' which is a bunch of hooey.

And Fear is a bad tool because? I want all my stallions to be very afraid that I will cut their balls off with a very blunt knife if they do not behave!

I like alot of natural horseman ideas and i agree that not all horses you can be so easy on. I think natural horseman can be uses on most horses but not all people have that many hrs in day to devote to one animal. I know for me i work 8 hrs and have 3 kids going every direction. I try to ride at least 3 to 4 days a week and that is hard some time. most training is done on the weekends and for young horse you can only do so much with them at one time or it will not sink in i line to let them soak a while. i have had to learn this i always wanted everything right now and that doesn't work either. If i were going to do my horse in all natural horsemanship them it would take me 5 years just to get them to do 1 thing.
