| Senior Member+ | Depends on whose eating....I mean who I'm training with them. If I am training me, the little ones. If I am training my horse, the big ones with the skin and the greenery still attached.

There are so many approaches that could be classified as "regular training". But it used to be that force was the method used to train horses into submission to humans. In fact, the term "breaking a horse" came from breaking a horse spirit through intimidation and often times fear and pain. (As an example: many people in the 1500s considered pushing a horse's head under water the best approach to teach him to cross water. More current "traditional" trainers still rely on the "throw the saddle on his back and let him deal with it until his struggles cease". ) So one could say that the newer, so called NH methods, are using trust versus force. When I was growing up, using force was the way to get fast results. That's what I would call "traditional training". If a horse was afraid of getting a bath, you tied it up to a pole and sprayed it with water until it stood still -- or you twitched it or sedated it. A NH person would not do that. Yep, it's getting serious again...it just irks me when someone says they hate NH and they clearly think it's all about halters, and DVDs, and lead ropes, and carrot sticks... when, in fact, it is not. | |

I find, trying to force your friends head underwater, works much better. The horses get totally into it.

Would pushing a human's head under the water be Natural Humanship for a horse?
