| Senior Member+ | OMGoodness. ROTFLMAO I was wondering when this thread would pop up again. ACC you have some good points. I have always said that NH is a method not what has to define someone. I will admit the more trainers I watch the more I learn both what to do and what not to do. I call it my bag of tricks. I've never been to a Parelli event but I have see them on the TV, they are coming to Dallas in sept and I'm going to go just to see what I can gain from it. Many people get stuck or sucked into a rigid packaged training program and spend a ton of money to get the package and never see the advantage of the other methods of training Here is a quick run down and by no means is this the only items these folks have for sale. Pat Parelli - Sucess Series 499.00, Level 1-3 728.00 Cris Cox - Part 1&2 485.00 Clinton Anderson - Gaining Respect and Control on the Ground 360.00, Riding w/ confidence 360.00 Dennis Reis - Premier Package (with grear) 996.58 John or Josh Lyons - dvd's go for 20.00 thru 149.00 depending on what you want to do. Monty Roberts - 30.00 per DVD depending on what you're wanting These are just a few of the ones I looked up. Now this is not the price for admission to a clinic, membership to their program (if they have one), to take a course with your horse or for any of the grear and tack; this is just the training DVD's/packages offered on the web site. "I" look at these programs like some folks look at fitness. The desire to get in shape hits, you go out and buy the latest equipment, gym membership, diet and exersices books and a cute little outfit that will make all the difference in the world (LOL). You hit the gym and start the diet and are going strong for the first few days (or for some a week or two) then... you fizzel, and the equipment becomes a towl or clothing rack on Ebay. The books get forgotten, the outfit stays in the gym bag and the membership is unused. Oh and the Tennis shoes that you had to have end up as the ones you clean the barn in (that would be me) How many of us have spent mony on a program and saw it through to the end. For those of you who have, you absolutly rock!!!! But many of us get caught up in our daily habits, family life, work, school, or "the weather is to hot, to cold, to windy, to wet", and... I have to say, from my personal ecperiance, the TV (and maybe a little HGS, LOL) and the program turns into the Bowflex in the corner coverd in towels. NH can be a great thing but the NH religous fanatics give me a headach. the gimmics that are offered by the top NH trainers and the cost of the programs are just so expensive. Unfortunately once you start a program many get caught up in it... like it's a drug. I went to a Chris Cox clinic last year and loved it. But I will have to admit I had the fever and thank goodness I didn't have my credit card or I would have purchased everything he had. The equipment was good quality and the DVD's were pretty (a friend got them and they were good but not 200.00+ good) I suppose if I had the money I would have been a kid in a candy store too. I'm not saying the methods are bad at all I'm just saying one mans drug in another mans poison. If you love it great but don't feel that a few clinics and a few DVD's and your the end all be all of the Natural Horsemanship training world... Whooo that was long winded...I shoud go work out at the Gym and get my horse training DVD's out and do something productive with my day LOL Have a good one

That is why I am now and avid RFD-TV and Tivo person. I get great lessons from all my favorite NH people in a short amount of time, when I have time to watch it, and I don't have to pay a dime for it. By the way, I completely agree with all three of your points on your signature, and it is rare that agree with someone on the last two, especially the last one. ACC |

| Senior Member+ | Thank you very much. I too am an avid RFD-TV watcher. I have Dish just for that reason LOL. Now if I can get that darn Boflex moved to in front of the TV I might kill two birds with one stone... I rarely find folks that agree with my signature points so... "hello" to another like minded person.

| Senior Member | I have never read this thread before and only read the first two pages then realized we were up to page 100..I'm sure all the in between is rehashing everything on page 1 and 2....so I'll skip those... Some observations... 1. I think there is always that side of us that questions our own methods..our own confidence level...is the horse really in tune with me...I think that little doubt in us makes us more sensitive when new folks think they know it all... 2. Natural horsemanship takes TIME...I would say that 80% of those that ride horses spend less than 5% of their time with the horse (counting 24 hours a day)...if you're able to spend 2 hours a day with a horse, and work up through all the levels...sure you'll probably have a great relationship. And it will work great. 3. If you don't have the time, then find that balance for you...if someone sees you showing frustration on a horse they're going to want to offer some tips even if they don't know better, I've just seen some amazing horsemen, and what makes them great is their ability to keep their frustration level low almost imperceptible....I doubt most of us have that ability, but we should be working towards it. We all agree these horses are special...and anyone who comes to me and wants me to have a better relationship with my horse is looking out for my horse...and me ultimately...but the Parelli's and Lyons and all the others have a career to spend with their horses...I expect much more from their horses than most.
