| Senior Member+ | I brought in another rescue. Irish Sport Horse Mare.
So, I did it. I took another one because well, I'm a softie LOL Everyone meet Rose (as in 'My Wild Irish Rose'). Her registered name is Kilpatrick Star. She is a 15 year old Irish Sport Horse who was imported from Ireland a few years ago. She was a broodmare for the first part of her life and later trained in eventing. From what we can gather, this is her story. She came from a very prestigious farm in Ireland from what I can tell. She was imported to NC, sold to a show barn in GA where she was supposedly traded to a Farrier in exchange for his services. He (again supposedly) was the one who got her looking like this. He sold her at a sale to a woman in GA who thought she could help her. From what I am told (and I can't say how much of this is true because I'm going on someone elses word) she was ridden in this shape but they were having hard time putting weight on her. She was then given to a woman in TN who only had her for 2 weeks before she discovered she couldn't keep her due to her husband's job and a forced move. She was listed on craigslist for free and that's how she came home with me. While she was in the care of the lady I got her from she choked and the vet (who for many reasons and things I've heard sounds like an idiot) thought she may have a tumor or other kind of blockage in her throat. I think it was most likely related to hay that was straw like in quality and cribbing that was being 'handled' by a metal collar that was so tight it caused indentations in her neck. She's had no choke episodes since that one and is looking better in just the few days she's been here with the help of a grazing muzzle to keep the cribbing under control and good senior feed plus beet pulp and rice bran. Not to mention all the GOOD QUALITY orchard grass hay she can eat. It's hard to believe someone spent all of that money to import her and she ended up like this. Here are some pics. I'm working on uploading photos of before she arrived at the person I got her from's house and then photos of now. In the mean time here are photos of her arrival. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Praise God that you found her!!! She will be fat and sassy in no time. Never will understand how things like this happen. Bet her former owners in Ireland would be horrified to know this is their precious mare that came across the pond for a "good life". This is a wonderful thing that you have done.

Hi Everyone, Thought I'd give an update. She is doing much better already. The cribbing has almost completely ceased (she'll still do it occasionally or when she's eating her grain) but other than that nowhere near as much as she was so I've taken the grazing muzzle off. I also had put her on some medicine for ulcers (sucralafate?) that I had for my other TB as I figured cribbing had most likely caused some and her water intake was down. She's been on them since the day after she got here and she seems 'better' in general. Of course, she also has hay or grass to much on 24/7 and I think that's helped out tremendously. I have some new pics from night before last. Since she has arthritis I've been doing a little work with her on the lunge line. Nothing really strenuous just mainly walking and a little trotting to keep her 'well oiled'. I have someone, from this forum actually, working on seeing if we can find out where in Ireland she came from. We'll see if we can trace her and find out more. ![]() ![]()

What a find! Shame on those people for neglecting such a nice, nice mare. I don't think you will be disappointed with her
