| Senior Moderator | I am such a proud mommy!!
Horsey mommy that is.. Today was a bit rainy so I decided not to ride or really even train in any way.. so I turned Scout out into the covered round pen and just played with him.. stretching, moving of my body language and stuff... then I decided.. hmmm how much of a fit will he throw if I asked him to bow down (expecting him to get frustated and not want to play like most horses).... so I picked up one leg and just lightly pulled down on the halter (no lead).. he started going down so I released the halter as a reward.. HOWEVER he continued to go all the way down and put his head into the proper bowing position.. by this time I released his leg so he was in the position just sitting there... waiting for me to do something... in the full bow.. I wanted to take a pic.. but I didn't want to ruin the moment by shuffling around with my camera phone. Well after I picked up my jaw from hitting the ground in amazement I asked him to get up and he did.. I WAS SO PROUD.. so I loved on him and put in back in his stall with his dinner (I stop while I am ahead) It normally takes atleast a week of daily work to get an older horse to go down and longer to make them stay and he did on his first try!!! I guess we have a new stretching exercise! Ok the other part that might amaze ya'll more.. if you remember.. he is 3 years old and was never he touched by a person until June of this year... Ok I just had to share.. so if you want to share you experiences training to bow.. go ahead! |
