I am such a proud mommy!!

Horsey mommy that is..
Today was a bit rainy so I decided not to ride or really even train in any way.. so I turned Scout out into the covered round pen and just played with him.. stretching, moving of my body language and stuff... then I decided.. hmmm how much of a fit will he throw if I asked him to bow down (expecting him to get frustated and not want to play like most horses).... so I picked up one leg and just lightly pulled down on the halter (no lead).. he started going down so I released the halter as a reward.. HOWEVER he continued to go all the way down and put his head into the proper bowing position.. by this time I released his leg so he was in the position just sitting there... waiting for me to do something... in the full bow.. I wanted to take a pic.. but I didn't want to ruin the moment by shuffling around with my camera phone.

Well after I picked up my jaw from hitting the ground in amazement I asked him to get up and he did.. I WAS SO PROUD.. so I loved on him and put in back in his stall with his dinner (I stop while I am ahead)
It normally takes atleast a week of daily work to get an older horse to go down and longer to make them stay and he did on his first try!!! I guess we have a new stretching exercise!

Ok the other part that might amaze ya'll more.. if you remember.. he is 3 years old and was never he touched by a person until June of this year...

Ok I just had to share.. so if you want to share you experiences training to bow.. go ahead!

aww. how cool. Your horse is really pretty. Did you teach him to bow down yourself or was he trained to when you bought him ?

That is amazing! He is soooo cute! So all you did was pick up his foot and pull down on the halter??!! That is great, I will have to try it. You should be proud, he is adorable.

Nope that pic is our third time bowing.. I guess he is just a natural.. most horses freak out when you pull back on their leg.. the only training he has ever recieved had been from me. I am so proud of him.. in the short time he has been exposed to people he has learned so much...
<thinks to self> now to conquer that bucking canter</thinks to self>

Well it helps that he was never touched until he was 3 and the 2nd person to work with him was me, the first only halter him and feed him(my almost mother-in-law).. so I know he has never had a bad experience with people.. or as he like to think of us as.. 2 legged horses.
