WOW...okay. Well, I can't believe people are so dumb as to continue breeding these lines. Are the registries doing anything to prevent this: i.e. banning registration to new foals with these lines? My goodness "Breeders" Can be stupid........its all about the money for some people, not the horses....ugh, this makes me ill.

Some of the lines are FREE of the disease NOT all foals get the gene that makes the disease. the AQHA AND the ApHC have BOTH put rules into effect that WILL start BANNING the horses AFFECTED (IE HH or NH) from being registered in the near future, BUT does not ban the bloodline completely. This does NOT stop people from breeding the affected horses only stops them from being registered with the association.

Most registries have taken steps and have done exactly what you have suggested. The problem is that some breeders are selling "tested positive" babies as grade horses with no history of their breeding.

It was a big step for AQHA to stand up and have the initial research done. For a long time the most powerful leaders in the AQHA were investors in Impressive. There were so many excuses put out by the Impressive breeders as to why these babies were having spells. Admitting there is a problem was a very big step though not popular at the time.

What hurts now is that even the most outstanding breeders of Impressive (N/N) horses are being hurt buy the practices of the trashy ones.

You're fine there is no possible way for her to be N/H or H/H every horse on the Impressive side after Impressive is N/N.

All of my horses that have Impressive bloodlines are HYPP N/N. They will never pass it on and will never get it.

Okay thank you very much! Now I have to doubt the owner's, as they should have looked this up first before breeding her. *shrug*

i would deffinetly get her tested no matter how far back impressive is. hypp is a serious thing to deal with. i use to work with a horse that had you have to keep your eyes on them 24/7. yeah you need to have her tested before you decide to buy her. then when the foal is born you should have it tested too, to just make sure it's ok too.
