Generally, I love his videos. They're always entertaining and well done but...I'd like to jerk a knot in his tail for posting the rogue buster one. Some things just shouldn't be viewed by an uninformed audience and that was one of them. Did the horse need to have that done? Probably. Did it need to be put out where any jack leg with a horse and little common sense can see it? No.

Why is he bringing the horses down onto the ground . Isn't that kind of...well...excuse my terminology, but rape-ish? Too forceful?

I probably am just looking at this from a bad standpoint lol. My guess is he does that to establish dominance and have control of the horse's movements?? But I remember when I was little, I saw this guy on the Spanish news (my grandma didn't speak much English, so she always watched it) and he used techniques like that, and said it was like pacifying a woman O_O. It made me very upset lol. I don't know why I still remember that LOL. I was like, seven.

Anywas, dotgotcalm, could you explain to me what parts you felt were uncessary?

I also don't like his mentality..."he's my ******". Um no. He should be your PARTNER. Grrr.
In the second video, why doesn't he go to an arena then? Instead of riding on gravel?

I also think in the second video he makes himself out to be kind of rude and arrogant...and inconsiderate of others.

For one thing, he says he didn't want to make the horse go down on the gravel because the owner wouldn't like it...um DUH! NO ONE should like it.
Secondly, he mentions something kinda mean about natural horsemanship people....ok, first off, making a horse sweat isn't mean or cruel or anything, it just means the horse is working. If a horse had a bucking problem that wasn't related to anything medical, I'd probably work him HARD so that he learned that wasn't going to fly by me.
Third of all, he kept mentioning that there was no action going on...so then he showed videos of himself plopping himself onto the saddle. Um...good for you? Glad to know you think you're on top of the world.

Then in the third video, I did like that he showed compassion to the horse, but it almost seemed like he was rubbing it in that that horse trusted him and no one else.

Well, that's just my opinion, based on what I've seen, since I don't really know much about him or what he's doing.

It's not that I think any part of what he did is unnecessary it's just that what he was doing is a learned skill. It's dangerous to the horse and to the handler so, it's the type of thing that needs to be learned one on one from a pro. My fear is that after seeing it some yahoo with more #^!!$ than brains will decide to try it on their horse. This is just the kind of thing that can get someone killed or ruin a horse mentally if it's abused.

Actually, what he did he did rather well but you can't learn to do this correctly from just watching a video so.....

Well, the Defcon 2 vid made me laugh. If that was a blacksmith I'll eat my hat! lol Poor guy approached that horse like it was a bomb that might explode. The horse, sensing his fear, reacted just as you'd expect. Horses are funny that way. Most of the time they'll give you exactly what you expect....good or bad.

Ahhh I see. That is DEFINITELY true. Geesh I would never try that with my horse! I had absolutely NO idea how he did that or why.

lmao That is true. He came up to that horse all scrunched up and scared...I'd probably react if I was a horse true if some little scrunched up guy came at me pointing a hoof pick like he was gonna jump on me after stalking me.

I think he is wonderful at what he does. He takes horses who have no other choice but to shape up and behave and shows them how to do it. He uses some force, but mostly endorphins which cause the horse to "submit" to his training and learn to behave.

I don't think he has a mean bone in his body, but rather he has learned an alternative way of dealing with punk-type horses.

I see. Now that I have a tiny better of understanding for what he is doing, it isn't so bad...but still...his attitude just irks me.

Endorphins???

I don't mind people using more forceful methods with horses that just have no other choice and are dangerous to other horses and people...I just did NOT like this guy's attitude in his videos--at all. He was SO arrogant. Could I respect him as a trainer though? Yes.
